PLEASE READ - How to embed YouTube Videos in posts

Post by JohnBG » Mon Sep 01, 2014 1:50 pm

Lately, the moderators are having to spend a lot of time editing people's post to correctly embed YouTube videos, so here's a refresher video (watch it in full screen mode) on how to embed them properly. It's quite easy and doesn't require any special technical skills.

For those of you that learn by reading instead of watching:
1. Go to youtube.com and find the video you want to embed in your post
2. Click on the "Share" link below the video.
3. Right-click in the youtu.be address in the Share link and copy the youtu.be link
4. Start your post in Soviet Steeds and where you want the video to appear, start a new line and then right-click and paste the youtu.be link
5. Highlight the youtu.be link in your post.
6. Click on the "youtube2" button (not the "youtube" button) just above the text entry box, it will put the proper BBC code before and after the link so it properly embeds.

If you did it right, the line to post the video should look something like this (the letters/numbers after "http://youtu.be/" will be different as each video has a unique identifier):

Code: Select all

[youtube2]http://youtu.be/eYznhwl6v78[/youtube2]
Thanks for your cooperation to keep the moderator's lives a little easier and the videos easier for users to view.

Sure, paste the yotu.be link and manually type the youtube2 /youtube2 (with brackets) before and after the link so it looks like the code shown in the instructions.

For Tapatalk users, the phpbb code [YouTube] does not show the video or embedded box. If you also provide the straight link with the embedded link, Tapatalk will embed the video for Tapatalk users.

I tried to do this in my post A better tool for pulling the FD needle bearing race using the youtube2 button and it didn't work. It had the proper youtube2 and /youtube2 markings in brackets but showed up as text. Them I tried to put the address up as text and it automatically turned it into a link.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

Update 7/8/15 - Got it. working now. What ever I was doing wrong I must not be doing now.

Hi Van,

The link was to your YouTube video showing your tool in comparison to using a blind bearing puller. Your tool is better.

Bruce, I'm reasonably certain that you're a 'Bot.
You've exhibited the traits of finding an old, obscure thread and your very first post is something general that could be applied to any situation to "test the waters". The only reason I haven't banned you yet is that you haven't posted a disguised hyperlink to spam or porn. If you don't respond to this comment within a timely manner, I'll be deleting your post and banning you.

Funny.

The purpose of my post was twofold:

1. In the unlikely event that this individual is an actual legitimate forum user, it gives them an opportunity to save their account before one of the moderators or I ban them into oblivion.

2. It offers other forum users some insight into the behaviors for which the moderators screen posts to keep the forum 'bot-free. Hopefully, this will help everyone identify and report 'bots more effectively to keep our forum streamlined and safe.
