Howdy Dana,

Just to let you know I won't be able to make this years gathering. My knees have gotten to the point where if I am going to be able to enjoy any kind of active life I have to get them replaced. I have been fighting with the va to get this done for the last three years, I have finally won that battle and will be having a NONE va surgeon who is a very well known guy in the field and is a teacher of how to do this at the University of Washington, who will be doing the surgery. My first appointment to get this work started will be May 29th, so that's makes coming to the event impossible. I don't know when the surgery will take place but I am assuming sometime in June or July, so I can't make any real hard plans until I get with this doctor and he lets me know what will happen and when.

So I hope everyone has a good time and with luck I'll be able to participate next year and be a in a lot better shape to boot.

Dave we're sorry to hear of no show and knees. Cookie was hoping to see you and Donna. She also wanted to tell ya she has had no regrets with her knee replacement (after the first 2 weeks) and she loves having quality back in her step.
Good luck and see ya around some where some time

Howdy John,

Give Cookie a hug from me.

I have put this off for years because to be totally honest about it I didn't want the va doctors cutting on me, I know for a fact that some folks have good care from the va that has NOT been my experience in the past 40 years and two of my friends who have had joints replaced by the va have not been happy with the results.

One of the big changes that has been pushed by President Trump is to enable vets to get care outside of the va system, I am having this work done through the Veterans Choice Program,by one of the best doctors in the field. At 71 years young, its in the best interest of this privet doctor for me to have a good outcome, its in the best interest of the va if I die on the operating table, that's not a joke its a sad fact that older vets have to contend with.

Looks like I'll miss the whole 'event' since I'll be that way next weekend and then up to Yellowstone the official week of the meetup. Feel free to stop me if you see me!

If anyone is still on the west side on June 1st, there is a good looking motorcycle show... https://www.westerncovintage.com

Going to miss you Dave and good luck with the surgery.

I will be at the vintage show on the K100/EML rig as usual. I try to make it every year.

I talked to the guy that runs the fairgrounds for the county the other day and there are no problems with the RV sites and the bathrooms will be open. If you are planning on pitching a tent at the fairgrounds stay out side of the fence and off of the grass please, the sprinklers will be running in the park.

If anyone needs anything please feel free to call for information or directions. I also have a trailer for rescues and a shop if needed. 970-754-8582.

I plan to arrive Sunday afternoon, coming from Woodland Park, CO, via Gunnison, and I reckon I'll be camping at the Fairgrounds for the week.

Who else is coming, Dana? Do you have any idea?

....(I'll be missing you, Dave, and your wonder dog!)

I really don't have a count but it sounds like pretty much the Moab crew will be here.

Give me a call when you hit town or swing by the house and we can run down to the fairgrounds with you and help you get set up.

I'll be arriving on Monday May 20 with a smaller trailer than I usually use, so I'd think I could park it at the fairgrounds someplace and pitch a tent. Anything else I need to know for when I get there?
Thanks for putting this together.

No problem parking the trailer next to the tent if you want. You can park it at my place or Rich's also. Same offer if you give a call when you hit town you can run by the house and we will run down to the fairgrounds with you and help you get situated. Rich and I are both about a mile from the fairgrounds but he has a lot more room to park trailers and such.

A warning again about the fairgrounds, do not set up your tent in the grass but anywhere outside the fence is cool. It really would be best to give a yell before people head down to the fairgrounds so we can meet up there just so we can make sure everyone is situated together in good spots.

Hotchkiss is a very small and friendly town and people are looking forward to having everyone come to town. Word of advice, speed limit is twenty five in town and they really prefer you do it.
