Problem Deleting a Post
I posted a response in the wrong thread, regarding a broken parking brake cable (sad that I had not had an adult beverage in three days when I did so). I wanted to delete it and repost but the delete option is not present as it is on other posts I made. I reposted in the correct thread and modified the errant post, but cannot delete it. What caused the difference?

I’m pretty sure only moderators and “above” (his Royal Eminences, JohnBG &MartyL) are able to delete posts...
I’ve seen posts where the OP decided differently, then used an emoji to replace his words...(I.e. erase everything and replace it with a “
“)
...or...
...you can contact your friendly neighborhood moderator and have said post deleted...

Re: Problem Deleting a Post
I would have sworn that other posts I made on this forum had a delete button up by the edit, quote and report buttons. Perhaps I was hallucinating.
Edit:
As soon as I posted this I noticed it did indeed have a delete button. I suspect that the delete option has a time out. The poster has only a specified time to change his mind. The post I made earlier today on this thread does not offer the ability to delete.
That’s my story and I’m sticking with it.

For both the originator of a post or a contributor to an existing posting (thread), once there has been a reply you can no longer delete.
You can modify the subject line if you are the originator.

Re: Problem Deleting a Post
Due to health problems, I am making a lot of mistakes or not explaining myself clearly. Today , I have cocked up and got a double post in the Hammerin and wrenching section and find I cannot delete it . this is causing me mental grief so I tyhink it better if I never post again on Soviet Steeds to avoid such grief. The delete (last post in a thread was an important feature to me ) . I also found the political threads to be very useful in gaining an insight into the American psyche. when that went, the forum lost part of it's soul as far as I was concerned. I am limited help on here as I can only try to help a small proportion of posters but if I sometimes make a fool of myself and am unable to rectify it, best be away.
I am talking about the very last post, not one that has been replied to

Please. Do not do this. As the saying goes, "Don't sweat the small stuff (and it's all small stuff)".I tyhink it better if I never post again on Soviet Steeds to avoid such grief.

You could report your own post and in the reason for the report, say that you messed up and want it gone. A moderator would then take care of it for you.

If you can’t delete it, it’s easy to just go back and EDIT, e.g. erase the text.Bilgekeeldave wrote: ↑Mon Dec 02, 2019 7:43 pmYou could report your own post and in the reason for the report, say that you messed up and want it gone. A moderator would then take care of it for you.

It would be much easier reinstating the system to what it was a few weeks ago. If the Admin can't be arsed, neither can ILokiboy wrote: ↑Mon Dec 02, 2019 7:53 pmIf you can’t delete it, it’s easy to just go back and EDIT, e.g. erase the text.Bilgekeeldave wrote: ↑Mon Dec 02, 2019 7:43 pmYou could report your own post and in the reason for the report, say that you messed up and want it gone.
