Marvel MAX 20W-50

Post by Emoore » Sat Nov 17, 2018 4:45 pm

I've been a fan of oils with a high zinc levels for my 2012 Utal T. I feel that a higher zinc level is better for our style motors. My opinion. Your milage may vary.
So, in looking for said oil with high levels of ZDDP, I have stumbled upon Marvel Max 20w-50. Not too expensive.
Not really looking for a debate about Zinc or what SAE rating you need to use in what....just letting you know this is out there if interested.
I believe this is listed under Muscle/Racing oil, bit they do make a classic car 10W-40 with ZDDP as well. Again, just putting it out there.

still seems pricey, $8.25/qt on Amazon. ZDDP additives may be more cost effective if you feel the need to go that route.
past afflictions include limey motocars and bikes, R60/2, R65ls, and a Citroen.
Now an 87 K75s, DB Haanjo gravel bike, and a rusty 2012 GU bought new
dual K&N cones on homemade intake, 40/137.5
Raceway needles, Modtop exhaust, E starter delete
$29 VW Hydraulic steering dampener

I’m with you, been loyal to Amsoil Z Rod which is a high zinc synthetic oil. $9 a quart so not cheap but some things I never want to cheap out on!! I understand some people say dump the cheapest crap in but that’s not the way I go.

AMSOIL Z-ROD Synthetic Motor Oil is specially engineered for classic and high-performance vehicles. It features a high-zinc formulation to prevent wear on flat-tappet camshafts and other critical engine components, along with a proprietary blend of rust and corrosion inhibitors for added protection during long-term storage. Z-ROD Synthetic Motor Oil is designed to perform on the street and protect during storage.

Valvoline VR-1 Racing oil, straight 30 weight for my BMW /2.
A bunch of yellow metal in this bikes engine. ZDDP was in all oils in 1969.

I've never felt the need to use anything but regular Dino Castrol 20-50 in the Ural engine & gearbox like my manual said to do back in 2007.
That or Ox urine.

Concur. Studies have shown that the use of oil can help extend engine life.

Wait, is this an oil thread or a zinc thread? I'm confused I don't which of my 4 opinions to argue about.
