Motul 300V in Ural

Post by Urtigeral » Thu Jul 05, 2018 10:33 pm

Just changed the oil at 600 miles to Motul 300V 15-50. Yes, way overkill but why not. I like the peace of mind that one of the best oils on the market is in my engine.

Previously from 120-600 miles I had Mobil 1 20-50 in the engine.

On the first oil change, there was a good amount of swarf on the oil drain magnet. On the second change, very little...let me see if I can attach a picture. No doubt I could have waited longer to change it, but I was bored. I had done the first change early because my Ural sat around for a year before I bought it, figured id put some fresh oil in it.

Can’t say I notice a difference between the Motul and Mobil 1 yet. Perhaps it starts a hair faster, maybe there would have been a bigger difference if I went from Dino to Motul.

Given the minute amount of swarf from this change, I’m done with the break-in flushes and will leave the Motul in until the next scheduled maintenance, the trans and final drive are still producing a decent amount of swarf after their second fluid change.

TLDR: went from mobil to Motul, no difference yet. Very little swarf from break in. Very pleased.

what year is your bike? sounds like you have been using synthetic oil during the break in period, is that possible! seems to me the rule is Dino oil for break in minimum of 1500 miles before switching to synthetic. could be you wont get a good initial wear in on especially the rings with synthetic so soon, maybe why the swarf is low. good luck let the forum know how things go.

after extensive and exhaustive research I've concluded the best oil for a Ural is the one that make you happy.
past afflictions include limey motocars and bikes, R60/2, R65ls, and a Citroen.
Now an 87 K75s, DB Haanjo gravel bike, and a rusty 2012 GU bought new
dual K&N cones on homemade intake, 40/137.5
Raceway needles, Modtop exhaust
$29 VW Hydraulic steering dampener

This just came in the mail today, my rear end and gearbox are getting all happy and warm now :D . Cheaper by the gallon, $63 on Amazon right now. Heck, I may even treat the BMW to the high price stuff, though it's pushing 200,000 miles now on bottom shelf lubes

My mistake....a typo on price of the Redline product pictured above...I see it on Amazon at $65. The Motul 300v on the same site is only $64, and they give you a few ounces more than a gallon. Still a bit on the pricey side....but who am I to tell someone how to spend their money. So, if it makes you feel good, go for it.... Happy trails

Minor point, but there is a huge difference between Motul's 300V(synthetic ester) and 3000(mineral) oils.

I wasnt aware of the 300V, that is listed at $63 a gallon. That's a little rich for my blood.
I was talking only about the 3000 as recommend by Ural and Motul on there site.
But like I said before I use Castrol 20W50 as per my manual for my 2012 T , 5 quarts for $19 on Amazon.
I was just putting out the Motul news I saw one day surfing the web. Never tried it, was going to use it in my 2017 to test it out.
