650 reverse shifter linkage

Post by URALNUT60 » Fri Aug 02, 2019 7:39 am

After my 650 rebuild hooked everything back up, noticed putting bike in reverse was a struggle, bracket was moving, put lockwashers under nuts, still not a smooth transition, my shifter up on tank, adjusted linkage rod outward bike would pop out of 2nd gear, will adjust back the other way, looked in my manual and no discussion of procedure to properly adjust, anybody know of tried and true method? Thanks

I don't know what your shifter look like, But it should be really nothing more than an extension of the short lever down on the tranny. If that puts the tranny into and out of reverse, the lever up on the tank should do the same. It may be that you have the lower lever in the wrong position and the upper lever is not able to make it travel the correct distance.

It should have no effect on 2nd gear. The reverse lever is really kinda of a neutral finder. It takes the tranny out of first and puts it into reverse. When you take it out of reverse, it should be in neutral.

Posting a photo of the set-up might make it obvious what is wrong.
