Unable to shift up to 4th Gear

Post by MountainSteed » Mon Jul 29, 2019 10:48 am

Greetings all. Short and sweet: I went for a ride on my 2005 Ural Tourist. Late in the ride, I noticed that I was unable to heel shift up to 4th gear. 1-3 there was no issue

It seems like after 3rd gear the heel shifter locks me out

Any thoughts. Again, the rest of the hearing seems to be working well.

How many km or miles on the gearbox? After checking clutch engagement, I would drain the gearbox and check for stuff.

Can you get into 4th with the toe shifter? If you can it suggests there is an issue with the heel shifter position/adjustment, maybe something is interferring with the movement. If you can't, maybe you can adjust the shift mechanism in the transmission. I've never done it so don't have any helpful info on that.

Best,

The heel shifter is the same piece of metal as the toe shifter. If one works, so should the other. The heel/toe design is simply to make it easier for the rider and provide the most positive way to shift the tranny.

I've never had to adjust the shift quadrant, but others here have. According to the manual, it is done using 2nd and 3rd gear. So, I'm not sure if it were out of adjustment that you'd be able to get the first 3 gears and not 4th. Suggest you look at the manual to see if you can determine. I just did a quick glance.

If adjustment is not your problem, you may have a bent shift fork.
