Hello all! Just got a new 2018 gear up. The speedo reads about half the actual speed....since the nearest shop is 2 hours away I would like to try to fix it myself before I rent a trailer and haul it up there. Suggestions?

Absent a solution in the Owner's Manual (and I didn't find any after a cursory review), a warranty replacement request for the OEM Acewell unit (the actual source of the 2017+ speedometers) is probably in order.

Removal and replacement is straightforward, if you want to avoid a 4 hour round trip. The exchange can be arranged with the selling dealer via a phone call or an e-mail. The speedometers can be exchanged via the USPS, etc.

Lofty nailed the best way to approach it.

However, even if you had to go to the dealer there’s no reason to rent a trailer. Use a GPS or download speed app for your iPhone and ride there. If you make an appointment I’m sure you can be in and out in under an hour.

Good luck

Speaking of rain... make sure you get your snorkels installed too.

My speedo didn't even make it home, failed on day 1of 3 day trip home, knew speed because of GPS only...Jason said it had to be replaced and programed and not a user replace item....have a feeling that the speedo replace was just IMWA wasting more money on an unneeded parts replacement instead of having me reset the damn thing... After the M70, I should have known better than to even f'ing ask. Warranties are worth a duck if the bike stays in the shop for the entire warranty period... Trust me, have first hand experience with that one. Glad your's is working with out dealer intervention.
