I do remember that we talked about this. I have been communicating with Chad throughout the process of disassembly and I ran the idea by him, to which he told me not to cut it.

Your call. If you were to cut, use the bolt/nut technique to keep the plate in place as you remove the screws that will unscrew.

You can cut it, but if you order the $27 set of left-hand drill bits, you'll still have left-hand drill bits afterward. If you cut and order the $30 plate, you'll be left with a useless piece of metal.

Life will be a whole lot simpler if you just pull the engine. Unless you have already boogered them up, once you get the engine out, you will have the right angle to use a blow torch to heat them up and then hit them with an impact screw driver. If you have to drill, having the engine out will make it way easier for you.

+1 I have done my clutch with the hand impact driver two times. Once with the engine in. Once with it out. It took me about the same amount of time because it went so much faster with it out. And you will not need a touch once you get it out of the frame. That hand impact will easily break open those flathead screws with a full hammer blow.

I screwed around all day trying to use left hand bits from harbor freight. It didn't work. Also tried a few other tricks that I have collected in my time like hammering torx bits into the drilled holes....also didn't work.

So I pulled the engine.

I pi$$ed away $40 today...can't say I'm pleased with myself. Gonna be even more when I take it to a professional to get these removed.

Oh yeah and...this is the worst gas tank I've ever seen in my life. I've never needed to drain the tank to remove. I covered myself in gasoline by pulling one of the hoses off the bottom. That made me mad.

While you’ve got it apart look at my post in the thread “Stuff that works” for two add-ons that are really worth it

Also, don’t for get about the “nut & bolt” (need three) technique to keep the plate’s pressure off the screws as you undo or screw in.

Couple things.
Yes you can use extension and impact the slotted screws while engine still in frame.
Second you have to clean the staked materials of the slotts, really good with a dremel first!
:lol: common issue on parked ural, km got nothing to do with plate falling apart

Many of us have been where you are at. You've learned quite a bit and have some new tools in your box. The knowledge and the tools will come in handy at some time in the future. If you wind up taking it to a professional, you have significantly reduced your cost with the engine being out and the gearbox separated. A good shop will do the work and help you understand what you needed to know to finish this up yourself.

Whatever path you take to get this resolved, take a look at the rear main seal while you are in there. With the low mileage and by my standards having a newer rig, it is probably fine but it is worth checking it.

You ural is low mies.
They clutch materials are broke apart and jammed up the clutch pack.
Take picture when it is apart.
