Finally back with some updates. Adjusted valves and they were a ways out of wack so that is done. Dropped my pan and there was a fair amount of metal shavings close to the size of sesame seeds but the filter looked pretty good. Bolted everything back up and refilled and fired it up just to see if I was lucky. I wasn't but while it was idling steady I zapped the outside of the noisy cylinder with a laser thermometer and read 79 degrees while the good sounding cylinder read 101 degrees in the same spot.

Super fowled! I found a friend that has a scope and found a glitter bomb. Top of piston on the left, top of head on right.

Yes it is. Little camera with a LED on the end. Protective plastic is still on the screen so it makes it a little blurry. Not mine so I'm not removing it.

It's the oval steel box?

Any fasteners gone missing from it?

I am inclined to agree with Mothra35.

It may not show anything but it might give you clues to which way to go as well.

Can the oil pan be removed with engine in frame? I tend to think not but.....

Yes. You can drop the pan with the engine still in. All it takes is a hex wrench.

Looks like it could use a wipe off but not as scary as I was expecting. Is there any way to get the cylinder off without taking the engine out or the sidecar frame off? I can slide it along the bolts but it bumps into the sidecar frame and I cant get the head or cylinder off. Really hoping I'm overlooking something easier :? I thought we're supposed to be able to service everything on the side of the road if we had to.

Thanks everyone. I'm gonna go back out there and see what I can see.

yes. loosen the two top bolts on your side car frame where it attaches to the bike. Once they are free you can lean the bike away from the sidecar and give you enough room. Other Option is to take the sidecar body off the side car frame. That is pretty easy as well.
