I think that’s the same as sump plugs, isn’t it?
They're externally threaded. You need an internally threaded cap.

There are non threaded rubber or plastic caps that fit over that thread and seal the opening.

That one appears to be 1" British Standard Pipe, is that compatible with M18x1.5 ?

While I had my speedometer cable off for replacement, I used something like this;
