You got caught by the site gremlin that deletes multiple photos if you preview them or someone else posts at the same time. Go back and put the photos back in.

My guess without seeing what you found is rust has the solenoid and its mating bits frozen up.

There they are. Commutator looks like it needs a little attention. Clean it up with a non-conducting sand paper. Make sure that the segments are not shorted by bits of metal or smeared metal.

The solenoid looks like my suspicions were correct.

IT'S ALIVE!!! muhaaahaaa! (Que Weird Science music)

Starter cleaned up, slapped back in, couple kicks to clear the cylinders and started with first push of the button. Thanks for all the help and suggestions. Thought about carb cleaning, but had a bit of a blonde moment...I've ALWAYS ran non-ethanol in my bike since I've owned it. Probably need to look at em eventually. Community & resources were big help. Thanks

PS - Communtator is sitting on the BFH I had to use to free it up

Well done. Why didn't it start with the kickstarter though? I never use the e-start on my carbureted Urals, they start so easily with the kickstarter that I want to save the battery.

You know I've only kick started the bike maybe 4-5 times since I've owned..maybe wasn't doing something right. It's always been kind of cold natured, like many carb bikes. (My Honda VTX1300 was the same way) Still running factory jets and air/fuel mixture, never messed with it.

Anyway actually getting ready to list the bike for sale this week finally got clear NC title so I could sell. (was a 2-1/2 month process) Will be listing here, Craigslist & Cycletrader this week. The whole reason a tried to start it in the first place after sitting a month and half.
