WTB- in Colorado No longer. I now have one.

Post by Thorsrevenge1 » Tue May 19, 2020 4:54 pm

Hey everyone, I am looking to buy either a 2wd Ural or 2wd Dnepr in Colorado. I'm really only looking for ones in Colorado as this will be my first Russian bike and I would like to be able to go see it in person. Semi project bikes are ok, I'm fairly mechanically inclined and own a welding fabrication shop so fixing/building isn't an issue. I'd even be open to buying a pair of non running bikes that I can mash into one running bike.

Phone Randy at Unique Rides in Loveland. He might have some used stock on hand.

Personally buying only by location kinda limits you. That works for a Honda or Harley. Case in point "NutJob" from NYC that found his perfect Ural match in... Colorado.

Anyway, looking for something with sort of provenance check out the two Mr. Cob has on the market in this thread:

As Dan mentioned, Randy at Unique is a good source of info. https://www.uniqueridesco.com

In theory there is also a dealer down out of Pueblo, went down there once. They didn't seem comfortable with anything not brand new.

Dneprs are much rarer out here, and parts are an extra challenge to source. 2011 and newer Urals are fairly easy to find parts for.

There is a Dnepr east of Tulsa that's been posted for a while: https://tulsa.craigslist.org/snw/d/inol ... 58166.html

Someone already posted about the Patrol in Aurora. I bought my Retro down in Albuquerque and there's a couple options on their Craigslist.

Thanks for the info everyone. I know my criteria is limiting but for now I'll try to work with it. Part of the reason is long distance travel isn't really an option, can't get enough time off work. Otherwise I think I'd Jump on one of Mr. Cobs, (2014 Kraken) since it has such a documented history. The other reason and why I posted about project bikes is I think I'm looking for a bit of a challenge and a bike I can truly make my own. My current bike is so pretty in my opinion that I don't want to do anything to it and since it's a Honda I don't have to really do much other than keep fluids topped up. It's the get on and go bike. I think I'm looking for the I've got blood sweat and tears invested in it bike that I end up knowing every inch of.

If you are interested in a rolling chassis with a basket case motor I've got a 2002 Tourist solo that I'd let go cheap. Just don't have enough time (or motivation) to bring it back to life.

Cheers,

Looking for a "bit of a challenge", oh baby you'll get that at some point whether a 2000 or 2020.
Let's hope its a good and enjoyable one.

Dan Kearney, if it was a 2wd basket case I'd probably say let's do it but for what I plan on doing with the bike id really prefer having the 2wd option.

Ok I think I'll change up my criteria a little. Out of state is fine but I definitely want 2wd, the toolbox tank, and my current budget is 6-7k shipping included. Color isn't really important.

(Update 6-2-2020, budget had to be lowered due to intervention of "Murphy" that jerk. So for now it's back to saving while looking for a potential project bike until the budget recovers. So currently I'm working with 5k ish.)

For whatever it might be worth... I've got a 2010 Gear Up with a tool box tank. The only time I've ever opened the lid is to find out what was inside, once. It isn't very convenient with a fine thread fastener needing a special "key" to turn it. I know you can fix it with magnets and such but I think the tool box feature is more about looks than function. Just my opinion.

Best,

Jeffsaline, Intellectually I know that the tool box is silly but for some reason the idea has stuck with me ever since I first saw one. Also I know if the right bike appears without one I'd go for it. Plus I could always switch out the tank. One reason I want to possibly build my own is my dream Ural is an m70 retro with the leading link front end and 2wd so essentially an older Dnepr with disc brakes lol. But if two urals popped up exactly the same but one had the tool box is go for the box.

Darn it, now you've reminded me to go search for the actual "key" to open my tool-box tank. It's been a couple years.
Wonder what I left in there? Hope it wasn't a candy bar or some other snack.
