2008 Gear Up, $5,500 WA State, SOLD

Post by mr. cob » Mon May 11, 2020 6:32 pm

Howdy All,

Ilya, is trying to get me on a newer Ural but before I can do any kind of deal with him I have to thin my herd of Urals.

This is the 2008 Gear Up, that I did the circumnavigation of the entire USA on in the summer of 2008. This bike now has 26,547 klicks on it. photo taken just a few minutes ago this is ACTUAL mileage.
Image

This bike had its drive train, checked and rebuilt as needed by Sergey after it did the round the USA trip, since then it has been ridden very little mostly by Mrs Cob, and not at all for the last three years. It is in VERY good shape as it was serviced by IMWA all the time that I have owned it. I am going to post up some older photos of the bike, it is STILL in the same shape as when these photos were taken, I can take NEW present day photos after I get it out of the garage which will take some doing. These photos were taken the last time the rig was ridden off road while participating in Dana's April Ural event. You can see that at that time the rig still had the IMWA factory dealer plate on it, Ilya gave me the rig about 6 months later. Just before Ilya, gave it to me Sergey, gave the rig a clean bill of health, it HAS NOT been abused since these photos were taken as I was in the process of building the "Predator" which was to become my off road rig.

Getting a full service and new clutch in the IMWA shop just before Ilya, gave me the rig.

The IMWA master Sergey, working on the rig.

I am pricing this rig for a quick sale, it has a real history, it is a part of the Ural-IMWA story and is well known by many. The price, $5,500.00, this is a damned good deal on a well maintained and historic Ural.

Let me know ASAP if your interested. THANKS

Dave

there is some sort of demonic force that has me strapped when stuff like this comes along. A friend has been after me for years wanting my 72 ford pu. I could not let it go. It is now a race to see if he can get the money to me before the 2008 gets snatched up. LOL

Howdy jvan1954,

I really don't want to sell the 2008, riding that rig around the entire USA was the trip of a life time that rig has a real hold on me. Donna was riding it for a while but then went back to school so I rode it every now and then but then other things came along as with IMWA setting me up with the 2013/14, so the rig started to sit rather then being ridden regularly. Its a darn good rig and needs someone who will appreciate it and RIDE it.

Click this link to be taken to the LONG ride report with thousands of photos detailing the circumnavigation of the USA on the 2008 Gear Up. Reading that ride report will take you a while, grab a 12 pack, make some sandwiches and enjoy.

Always interested but need another Ural sidecar like a hole-in-the-head.
However I just wanted to say "Hey Mr. Cob" and glad to see a post from you, long, long time.
Hope you and family are safe & well? How did things work-out with that fancy 4-wheel off-road contraption?

Howdy stagewex,

I still ride my Ural's the 13/14 and mostly the "Predator" but the CAN AM SxS, has become my toy of preference. I have wanted a new Ural since they have come out but I don't ride the Ural's enough to justify the cost of a new one when I have a garage full of good Ural's that I don't ride that much anymore. So if a new one is to be had two of the older ones have to go, I should have sold them years ago but I have a very hard time selling things that have given me so much fun.

I have a 1968 BSA Thunderbolt, that I need to sell I haven't started it for over 5 years I'd take $2,500.00 for it as it sits, the same goes for Yamaha R1 its a 1998 one of the first to be unloaded at the dock in seattle still in GREAT shape but I am to gimped up to ride it anymore, it too needs to go but I just can't let things go for what market value is $4,500.00 and its yours. Every mechanical thing I have I keep in good shape its hard to let them go for the market price of most junk that is out there. I would even entertain thoughts of selling the "Predator" if someone gave me a reasonable offer but folks who have only looked at it judge its worth based on dents and scratches never giving its ability any credence. Donna and I are in good health, life is good.

Certainly some interest from me, but you're on the opposite coast.

Good luck with selling your awesome rigs.

Howdy timbillyosu,

Three words come to mind, "Fly and ride" been there, done that. Yes, I would trust either of the rigs I have for sale to ride coast to coast.

Sounds like an amazing adventure. However, having never driven a sidecar rig before, I think it would be a bit over my head to make my first trip from Washington to NC.

Relative newbie myself but if I was to ever have the nerve to fly n ride cross country on a used Ural, it would be one maintained and ridden by this dude. Hard to imagine a better way to get started. The learning curve is a bit steep, I never had a lot of the severe handling issues that many talk about. Whether that was luck getting a well set up rig or the fact that I'm not that bright and was unaware of the danger is debatable. A day or two riding around with a big ole grin on your mug and you'd be ready to go.
I imagine that with a little research you could collect enough names on SS to never be TOO far from a little help if needed. At least that is my evil plan if I'm able to come up with the money soon enough.

Spend a couple days with Mr.Cob and you will have no problem doing perhaps the ride of a lifetime.
If you currently had the time & $$$. Wouldn't be a quick trip on super-slab.

I'd love to buy that BSA Thunderbolt from you, but things are kind of tight right now. I'll get a hold of you when I'm a little more flush and see if you still have it and are willing to part with it.

Good luck selling your Urals. I just bought a '13 Gobi Gear-up this spring, so I've got that boxed checked.

Howdy wyoplinker,

Ah come on, just buy it. I took these photos the last time I had it running about three years ago, it needs a battery and a carb clean, I just don't want to work on it anymore.
