2019 Distinguished Gentleman's Ride

Post by DrFaulken » Tue Aug 06, 2019 12:09 am

https://www.gentlemansride.com

The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride (DGR) is an annual international motorcycling charity event. Donations go to the Movember Foundation, which funds men's cancer research and also men's mental health outreach.

Who's participating in this year's ride? We did last year and had a great time. There were 3 other Urals there, which is the most I've ever ridden with at the same time.

Please post links to your rider pages if you're participating, I'll donate $20 to each Ural rider, up to $200.

Hi Dr Faulken,
That is a very generous offer of you to donate to the DGR. It is such a good ride for raising awareness and funding for mens health issues. I have done three DGR's and have always met lots of great people on the ride. I am doing the Nowra (Australia) DGR this year on my 2019 Sahara.

If you would like to donate on my rider page i would be very appreciative. There is a photo of my Ural in the snow on my profile and the URL is:

Kind regards, Steve

Where is the ride the OP is doing? I was looking at their site a while back and couldn’t seem to find an actual ride happening. I would love to do one.

Our ride is in St Paul / Minneapolis, but there are events all over the world. There might be one near you.

OK, I know this is a worthwhile cause . . . but when I go to the DGR website and find my closest city (Pittsburgh), I cannot find out any details until I "register". If I register, doesn't that mean I'm committing to ride? I'd just like to know if it's a convenient day and place . . .

I cannot speak to locations, but the ride is Sunday 9/29 worldwide.

I will be riding my 3rd DGR this year; my first with the Ural. I haven't decided which of the two closest rides I will be doing, as the one I used to do isn't running this year.

My son and I are participating in the Chicago ride. My father was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer back in 2010 and was seeing Dr. Moran at Chicago Prostate Cancer Center before he passed of a heart attack in 2013. We have been supporting Dr. Moran and his treatment center in my father's memory for many years. A close friend of my parents was recently diagnosed and we sent him to Dr. Moran immediately, even if you do not get treated at their facility they have a top-notch support system in place and welcoming to anyone (patients, non-patients, family members) dealing with the disease.

This is my 1st year participating in the ride and taking my 5yr old son (in which the Ural is "his" motorcycle, just ask him). If anyone here is participating in the Chicago ride please come say hello, I'd love to shake the hand of anyone else willing to take time out of their day for a cause that is very personal for my family.

Edit: Small donations have been made in my son's name (MotoJoeCool2 link provided above) to all participating S.S. forum members.

Donated! Let us know what it's like to do a DGR on your Ural after riding a "normal" bike for two years :) I've only ridden this with my Ural, so I'm curious what your thoughts are.

Donation made! I think this is an awesome opportunity for your son to see the power of charitable events and outreach. Super cool that he is letting you ride his bike for this event ;)

Thank you for the donation.

My father passed away the spring before my son was born. From 9 mo. old he's participated in prostate cancer support as a "passenger" as I ran the Chicago Prostate Cancer 5k after my father's death. Since he was able to walk he does the 3k walk with my mother.

I've participate in a few Norfolk, Virginia DGR's, but since I moved further inland, the closest to me is an hour away in Richmond, Virginia.

I've reached out to the ride organizer, but have not yet gotten a response. Ah, well. If I don't hear from him, I'll probably "suit up" and do a one-Ural ride around town.

I wonder what the Richmond route would be -- if it goes through Shockoe or something that would be a lot of fun.

Reciprocal donations made, thank you! I'm looking forward to the ride.

In the past I've ridden a TU250x with lots of pleasant comments and no issues. I'd considered my Honda C70, but it was a bit too slow. Parts of the Portsmouth NH route were touching 50 MPH, and the Honda topped out at 42. I'll report back with my comparisons afterward.
