BGR - Manassas 1-4 June 2023
Join us at the Blue/Gray Rally (BGR) on 1-4 June 2023. This year we’ll be exploring the Civil War battlefields of Manassas (Bull Run) while camping at the Bull Run Regional Park.
https://www.reserveamerica.com/explore/ ... geNumber=0
The BGR’s primary purpose is a roving, historical rally centered around various eastern Civil War battlefields. The BGR’s secondary purpose is a riding rally exploring the local roads and/or give folks an option to explore the local area and visit interesting sites.
This year will be slightly different in that we will be a bit less riding…
- Friday: Tour the National Museum of the United States Marine Corps at Quantico, VA
- Saturday: Tour the Manassas battlefields
- Saturday: Tour the Udvar-Hazy Air and Space Museum Chantilly, VA (near Dulles)
Those tent camping, two tent campers can easily fit in a site. I selected site # 146 . The number of BGR participants should be able to fit into 3-4 sites. Location is near water, showers and restrooms.
A. reserve a site: see above
- or -
B. let someone who has reserved a site know you’ll be joining them and split the cost.
There is electrical hook ups at all the sites. Cabins are available
NOTE. The campground is near the highly populated areas around Washington DC. Get your reservations early — it will fill up. If you need to cancel there is a $10 fee
Camping and Cabin Reservations
* 14 days or more outside of reservation arrival, full refund provided minus a $10.00 cancellation/change fee.
* Inside of 14 days from reservation arrival, full refund minus 1 night stay, 2 night stay for Holiday Weekends (Memorial Day Weekend, July 4th, Labor Day).
* 48 hours from reservation no refund/changes accepted
As host, I like to ride on back roads - ask anyone who’s attended a BGR. So, to be clear, the BGR kicks off the morning of 2 June (Friday) around 0930-1000. If you arrive at the campsite on Friday we won’t be back until the afternoon.
So, come along, get out of the house and see some history.

Re: BGR - Manassas 1-4 June
If anyone from the local area has suggestions for dinner on that Thursday, Friday and or Saturday, please let me know. Looking for a local establishment, with good food and some ambience (within a 45min ride).
Also, the best, and I mean the best book if you want to learn about the history of the Marine Corps from the 1780s to the 1920s and all of its involvements around the world I can’t recommend highly enough the book, “Savage wars of peace” by Max Boot. It is a quick read. Outstanding!

Whoo! This year's BGR is packing 10 pounds of activities in a 5 pound poke! The Marine Corps and Air & Space museums can consume entire days in and of themselves. Participants will need to be judicious with their time.
That said, of course I'm in, tent camping.
