This is a slippery slope when you start talking about breaking the "No mud before bacon" rule before we even get there.

I'm overdue for some adventure. :moto:
Besides, that trail is relatively high ground, more likely to have issues with sand than mud.

The more I think about it, the more I'm leaning towards coming down Thursday night so there will be a Friday "dirt breakfast."

Mmmm a Friday morning 'dirt Breakfast' sounds better to me than mud pits... river crossing and pin-balling off trees... count us in lol

This is a good time to point out that any ride in the Pines has inherent chances of water crossings, mudholes, etc.
Part of the issue is that we don't know what the actual trail conditions are everywhere in the Pines.
We can go weeks without rain, but some of the puddles seem to be bottomless and never dry.
In the Fall you can have the added fun of leaves dropping from trees and eventually lining the bottom of holes and retaining water.
Or it could pour the entire week before, but the area you happen to be in has good drainage and is bone dry.
Sand is everywhere in the Pines, so a reasonably firm trail ends up becoming a bowl of sugar.
Sometimes a trail is closed by the Forest Service, so what was once the best route now becomes a search for a go-around.
Or, and I know this is hard to believe, we're fallible.
Turns get missed.
Years-old recollections of "that trail isn't too bad" become "oh yeah I forgot about the swamp that ate Jim's bike."

There is a mental dial for difficulty, which exists in the minds of trail leaders
Large group, lots of beginners, lots of recent rain, riding in low (relative in the Pines) areas, let's set the difficulty dial to 4.
Small group, very experienced, rope pullers/winches and skid plates abound, we don't mind if we come back short a bike or two, let's set the difficulty at an 8.
Then the Pines and other factors mentioned above can swing that rating a few points either direction.
And yes, much like in Spinal Tap the dial goes to 11.

We will dial it way down and won't go LOOKING for challenges on the way to breakfast but we also can't guarantee a pristine, dry, graded fire road. :P

I'm planning to arrive Thursday evening. This will be my first JD hunting trip. In case I'm the first to arrive, is there anything I should know about where to park the car/trailer? Where to set up the tent? etc?

As per instructions in the first post:

We have the 'group' camping area sites T4, T5 and T6 with a nice big field to park bikes, non-camping trailers, cars, etc.

Such a cool bus! Honestly!

No bus for me but I'll be down in the sprinter with trailer in tow.

Looking forward to catching up.

I'm targeting arriving Thursday evening around 5pm.
Amanda has a work thing she can't miss Friday so she will be down Friday afternoon.
We will definitely go get breakfast Friday morning, location and timing TBD, then go for a ride.

As for parking, most folks tend to pull into the field and park perpendicular to the fence (yellow line) or down the side away from camping (red houses).
While the field looks like it's open to Cedar Lane on the map, there is actually a split rail fence (yellow line) that prevents access.
You follow the red line, past the office and come through the gate (the office or someone parked in the field will let you know the code) and around to the field.
There are no assigned spots but Jay likes his spot (blue) and I usually park on other side (white) but nothing is assigned or written in stone.
Though Jay DOES move houses for a living so if you park in his spot and your rig isn't where you left it...
