OUTCAST - Ozark Uralista Trail Challenge and Siesta Time????

I'll be there.....maybe get a group to caravan out of STL or close by?

EDIT

Ozark Uralista Traveling Circus and Sideshow Tour
Just saw this thread! Sure looks good. Great roads to ride down to get there. I would like to jump in with the St Louis group.
I will get to page two here shortly. Hoping for a date that’s not Aug, kind of hot for camping, so I’m heading for AK (not on Ural)..

If/when this happens, I'll have to defer to you and Ammo for the roads less travelled to get there - looking forward to an excursion of slow moving objects that are actually heading somewhere.....side bar - have you ventured out into the snow yet?

mattzahr,
You can do a quick and dirty back road estimate by using Google Maps and optioning to No Highways. According to it, I am 550 miles from Branson but that is only 30 or so miles further than the freeway so it seems like more fun.
I may not be good, but I'm slow.

It all depends on how long you want to be on the road.. We could end up in Arkansas on the way.

Bonus points, depending where you're coming from a decent portion will be along Route 66. Just be real careful around Lebanon MO if you're coming from the East - a wrong turn plus stubbornness once got me lost on 25 miles of hilly, twisty gravel.

As long as they are not too technical, I would love to give the gravel a go - that's where MizzouRider and Ammo would be tour guides - they have the experience and knowledge of those type roads in that area.

In addition, I don't have the parts/replacement parts assembled currently (thanks 54 Vintage!) to make a wheel swap - just have tubes and tire available - they're K-Blocks, so they won't be easy. In the process of purchasing an 18 inch wheel to get the spare set up as not to slow anyone down.

codemokkey - I live off Route 66 coming out of St. Louis County - I ride a portion of the blacktop for weekwend morning excursions as much as possible - would like to head North on 66 into IL - there is a diner near Litchfield if I am not mistaken that has pretty good food....are you aware of any other eatery joints that are that way on 66 that could be good for a 1 day trip from STL?

Depends how you define a day trip. Some of my favorite spots along that portion of the route are:
  • Springfield (100 miles from St Louis): Jungle Jim's Cafe. Get yourself one of the horseshoe sandwiches that area is famous for. Guaranteed to clog at least one artery.
  • Atlanta (140 miles from St Louis): The Palms Grill Cafe. Nice 1930s decor and menu. Next door to a 19' muffler man holding a hot dog, and across the street from a nice gift shop/Route 66 museum. You can see a racing jersey worn by my neighbor, AMA hall of fame flat track racer "Sodie" Soderstrom.
  • Bloomington/Normal (160 miles from St Louis): My stomping grounds. Depending what you feel like, you could try Lucca Grill, which introduced central Illinois to that exotic food item, pizza, back in 1927 or hit the Destihl Brewery. Not my cup of tea, but my coworkers love it. Probably because it's the closest place to my office that serves alcohol.
  • Braidwood (240 miles from St Louis): It doesn't get more Route 66-y than the Polka Dot Cafe. Eat your burger next to a 9' fiberglass elvis.
Farther north that that and you're getting into Chicago; you can find all kinds of stuff there, but you're probably looking at an overnight before returning home.
