Browning Hi Power

Post by Birdy » Wed Oct 09, 2019 10:57 am

I wanted one for some time and a friends husband passed away about 5 years ago and his guns were sitting in the safe. This had barely bee fired as he was a 45 man, there are about 6-7 in that safe! She brought it over for me to shoot and the oil had almost turned into tar, gun wouldn't even load a round until it was oiled, after that it ran like a dream and I fired 50 rounds. I made a fair offer and she took it. I spent 3 1/2 hours cleaning and getting it all spiffy! I did replace the grip screws and someone had removed them using the wrong sized screwdriver and buggered them up but they are cheap. This is not going to be a daily shooter but a special time gun.

Nice, a very late model, not that old. I used to have a Canadian John Inglis one with a ring hammer before our government decided we couldn't be trusted with pistols from 1997 onwards.

By the serial number it's a 1991 mk3 gun. Still a Browning tho. Shoots nice and looks so much better than my Sigs or the Glocks or really any of the Plastic Phantics.

I converted one to 41 Action Express back in the early 90s. It shot better as a 41AE than as a 9mm.

Best,

I like them also, I have 2 interesting FEG Clones, & a new stainless TISAS REGENT CLONE - All with interchangeable parts with FN. All excellent pistols
Can't afford the only FN HP I WANT.

Love the Browning HP but I'm still old(er) school.
When I carry it's either a Colt Combat Commander (steel frame) 45acp
or two colt 45 Long Colts With 4" barrels.

Sweet. And, surprisingly, legal to own in the state of Commiefornia!

But I went the CZ route; 75 Compact.

Yep. Bought them the same day they arrived at the gun shop almost 30 years ago. All tucked away NIB. With my luck, all worth less than what I paid for them :D

That was a good choice Lew. I believe they are DA/SA, which I think is safer to leave chambered - than leaving a round chambered - cocked & locked in a straight SA action pistol
I find I am favoring the DA/SA system myself for carry & emergency defense. CZ makes a fine products, & if I could only own 1 pistol - I'd get one like yours.
I have several MAKAROVs with the same DA/SA system, that I prefer for carry - because of size. But general home defense & shooting enjoyment I prefer a full size handgun, that shoots cheap 9mm ammo. .45 & others get expensive.
