I've still got my old Century Arms WASR-10, I bought 10+ years ago for around $250. Despite folks saying WASR is an acronym for "What a Shi-ty Rifle", I've put thousands of rounds thru it with no issues. I need to drag that sucker out and take it to the range. It's probably been 2 years since I fired it last. It actually fires much better once you put some rounds thru it. It's not picky, it will eat the cheapest Tula, Wolf, and Silver bear steel case 7.62x39 rounds like candy.

The WASR-10 is probably the cheapest AK you can buy, made of stamped metal parts but after using it you can understand why they gave these to 10-year old kids in the Congo. Easy to use, not a lot of parts, to clean it, take a bootlace, ties a few knots in it, dip it in motor oil and drag it thru the bore a few times and keep on truckin...

I just ordered one of these "Urals of the AK world" . I guess I can live with canted sights and rattling clips , as long as I don't have to deal with big end bearings, clutch teeth and exploding final drives on the thing.
I'm one of those guys that researches every purchase to death on the internet before I pull the trigger on anything. Everyone seems happy with the Wasr . It seems to be the tractor that eats any ammo and doesn't stop .Takes a licking and keeps on ticking sort of thing.Ugly but fun sort of gal.
Let us know how your range time went . Pictures or it didn't happen.

My sights, like I would guess the majority of WASRs, are just fine. I tend to take complaints with a bit of salt...a grain, actually...

Cleaned and lubed the AK then sent 160 rounds downrange this weekend of Tul ammo, 122 grain ball ammo. WASR 10 functioned perfectly. Rifle was surprisingly accurate at 100 yards, much to the dismay of various half-gallon water jugs, tin cans, and other debris left behind at the quarry.

I picked up my steel cases, but was amazed how far the AK flung them. I also have a nice bruise on my shoulder, courtesy of a steel butt plate with ridges.

Shot offhand, kneeling, sitting, Slavic squat, and prone. The AK, like the Ural, put a huge smile on my face. I’ve ordered a Vickers sling for it.

Nice looking rifle! There are recoil buffers that go on the spring that really make a difference. I added one after a year and it helped a lot.

Ah, Tula ammo, my WASR eats that like candy!

Thanks for the recoil suggestions, I'll have to look into them. Buddy of mine from KLR world also has a WASR 10 and we're going shooting tomorrow as his is scoped and tarted up with polymer furniture. I measured my range off of an air photo program at work and I was actually banging away at about 130-140 yards, depending on from where I was firing.
