I know it's gray ... anyone [ahem] know what the actual color is named?

Having been in the Coast Guard....not the navy, and many years ago, I believe it's official nomenclature is haze gray.

Are you teasing me right now, Lew? 🤔

MIL-STD-2161(AS) of 1985 established that the colors to be used for the Navy's tactical paint schemes shall be FS 36375 Light Compass Ghost Gray for the lower fuselage and FS 36320 Dark Compass Ghost Gray for the upper fuselage. So, your answer is Light Compass Ghost Gray.

Here's a Federal Standard paint color chart, which may be of use to you: http://www.fed-std-595.com/FS-595-Paint-Spec.html

What can be more exciting than a discussion of military paint standards and paint schemes? While getting ready for deployment to Saudi Arabia in 1990, the 1st CAV Division had to repaint their tactical vehicles from the camo green paint scheme used in Europe to a desert sand. They got the wrong paint formula or just bungled the job, but their M1 Abrams and M2/3 Bradley tactical vehicles came out in a very alluring titty pink. Now who wants to fight in a pink tank?

In WWI the British came up with a camouflage pattern called "dazzle camouflage". It supposedly disrupted the view of a ship as it appeared on the horizon. I've often fantasized painting a vehicle like this.

That dazzle would look kinda cool as the second color on a “two toned” Ural paint scheme.

Like this. Just replace the red with the dazzle.

This is one of those topics you just defer to Chad.
He's going to know that in his sleep.

LOL Chad!
Yeah once you start getting them dirty, they are hard to get back to pristine.
When I bought my used 2012 engine from Pinwall on Ebay, the only bit of dirt I could find on it externally was the finest talc-like silt tucked up under the alternator adapter.
Consistent with description of low mileage, garage kept and seldom used.

I often wonder what the original owner would think if he saw it now?

Now who wants to fight in a pink tank?
The Royal Navy used Mountbatten Pink on some of their destroyers in WWII. And of course the film Operation Petticoat (great flick, BTW).

and then there's...

Are you teasing me right now, Lew?
Maybe, a little. But what I had/have in mind involves the paint job on my '89 Silverado p/u that I paid $2,600 to have "restored" about three years ago, and which has, subsequently, returned to it's original POS appearance, complete with peeling clear coat and flaked paint down to the primer...
I've often fantasized painting a vehicle like this.
Having been HEAVILY into large scale model aircraft years ago, I had fantasized, prior to having the truck repainted, about doing a "weathered" treatment to my truck, complete with panel lines, rivets, and grime. The base color I now know to be; Light Compass Ghost Gray.
You know what happens when I get a rattlecan in my hands....

After finding out about the reflective glass microbeads used by road crews on new highway night striping, I also thought it'd be very cool to use them as a base layer and on a Ural. By day it'd be a flat whatever color you wanted, but by night it'd be the ghost Ural!

Would you mess with somebody brave enough to drive a pink tank into battle? <G>

Oh. And why stop with paint? Have some REAL fun. Imagine getting pulled over in this beast ...
