Kilt shopping

Post by snowymonkey » Thu Aug 08, 2019 10:00 am

So I have wanted a Kilt for years. When I did the FUBAR rally Bruce wore one the whole day (off-road ride and all). I was inspired then...... but never got off my arse and ordered one.

Fast forward to now..... I signed up for the “Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride” in Ocala at the end of next month and would really like to have one for the event. Sooooo I am shopping.

After talking with Bruce I’m pretty sold on the “Damn Near Kilt Em” line. Particularly the Sport Utility model. I figured I’d see if any of my other fellow foil heads wanted to chime :foilhead:

This is the one I’m currently leaning towards. It the “DKNE” Sport Utility I mentioned above. Only thing that holds me back is the $80 price tag. Which from what I understand is actually a good price for a good quality kilt.... but money is money.

Matching underwear included? <G>

I've got a set of highlander pipes here if you need to accessorize. Was sitting back one day, thinking to myself, how could I possibly be MORE annoying? Bagpipes!!

My wife might actually shoot me if I brought bagpipes home.

I’ve always wanted to give them a try though.

I play a mean grace note ... other players have threatened to kilt me if I try it again anywhere near them ...

I figure with my music background I’d have a fair chance at playing a set half decent.

I’m the guy on the left in this video. I haven’t played much in years. We were messing with that clarinet I’m playing. I found it for a steal and couldn’t pass it up. This was testing it after an overhaul. I likes it...... but I haven’t played it since this video

But I digress....... back to kilts 8)

 ... the music moves you, but it moves you ugly. Turns you sideways too! :P

Actually not half bad. I'd practice the pipes some more, but my instructor has a restraining order out on me ...

PS ... speaking of which, somewhere around here, I got a video of a guy who came to bike meets a few years back. He'd pack his pipes along and "entertain" after he got drunk enough. One night he was showing off his bike and his brakes mysteriously failed. He ended up taking a header into a lake. Sad to say ...

.

.

.

.

.

... he was still able to play the pipes that night.

I've got 5 Mountain hardware El kommando kilts https://www.amazon.com/Mountain-Hardwea ... B07HS3K34L They are very lightweight nylon and are awesome walking the dog in this summer heat, it's like wrapping a towel around you then leaving the house. There's even a modesty snap on them if your not ready to be in public in a kilt but I don't think they're making them any more. I also have a few kilts that are from https://www.utkilts.com/ and they have a decently made and reasonably priced product. I have some of their canvas kilts but I see they have lightweight ripstop nylon options along with tartans of various materials. The external side cargo pockets and rear cargo pockets are awesome but I don't recommend getting the Jeans style internal side pockets as there isn't very much room to get your hand in there and they cost more money. You have to measure different so check out their sizing page. I do have a DNKE canvas kilt, it's well built but a little more pricey than UT kilts for no discernable quality difference or country of origin. I'm gravitationally attracted to burn my legs on exhaust pipes, so I can't wear anything that short for riding

Good duo play!
Not a bad price. Good Scottish kilts cost about $1500.
How about the purse :D Does it come with one?

Pretty nifty if you have a Camo G-Up.

Looking at the Utiliti-Kilts, they have a good variety of styles and prices. Basic kilt for $50 is a steal. I like the comfort waist kilt for $85. Lot of extras and a pocket in front of your junk.

I like the rip stop material (wear it every day at work). Also I like that it actually has two butt pockets. The DNKE equivalent only has the right one, and I use the left on pants for my phone. It’s also $20+ cheaper than its closest DKNE equivalent.
