Got my interest now. My 77D and I did a couple of cross-country trips way back when. Unfortunately, we had a mutually bruising accident. Both of us are still in the garage. Good luck.

Not my first rodeo, hopefully my last. I suppose I could guarantee myself that by hanging up my spurs, but I don't see that happening right now.

Here's the XS just before the accident. I had done a full restore on it, and just rubbed out the final clear coat. Took it out for a test run - lasted about an hour before it was scrap ...

I’m often enough confused at this age but isn’t that a XS Special? I thought they came out in 78.

(hee hee)

Had a bit of fun with that. It IS a Special ... an '83 Heritage special at that. Best clue is the weird wheel lacing they used and the 650 logo on the points covers. I was doing all new paint and a lot of body work anyway, so why not? Always liked the '77 paint job, and I just so happened to have a set of decals left over from a project way back when, so - there it is! I was amazed the decals peeled from the backing paper and went on nice, what with being 30+ years old.

Here's what it looked like when I got it. The ol' bug bomb special ...

Lot of road rash from a lay down (which is probably why it sat under a tarp in the barn for 20 years, but I came up with enough parts out of the barn here to put it back together. Only thing not stock on the final build was the Dunstal exhaust.

Easy to tell those aren't double wall by the bluing on the headers - certainly made the thing breathe a lot easier. Also a barn find.

Nice job indeed. I’m starting work on my 650D....hopefully....this winter. Hope you might not mind a question of two sometime. Very best of luck with your “new” ride.

Advice? I'm full of it - ask anyone! ;-}

(and not to forget - half the lies I tell you are not true)
