Is it too early for Christmas?

Is it too early for Christmas?

Post by GHGoodwin » Thu Feb 14, 2019 12:06 pm

Getting ready for 2019. Sour cherries from my back yard and a mixture of alcohols. Aro 70proof. Batch one of two.

Hold Christmas in your heart all year long. Maybe a little in your tummy too. :-)

No real name for them but I've been making drunken fruit for years. The liquid gets drained off for consumption. Most of the cherries get dipped in chocolate. Almost all of it is given away. They need to sit a good while for the tatse to even out. Kind of like chili. Last years gift batch was made using unsulfered candied apricots. YUM...

I've done something like this that I learned about in Romania. Mix equal weight of sour cherries and sugar (which was way too sugar), let ferment on it's own with no added yeast in open jars with cloth to keep the bugs out. When done bubbling, mix half and half with vodka.
They called it "vissnata" or something like that.
