I am not that smart but I can carry heavy objects. Let me get this straight in my head. Van, you think the dealership left the original crank in the bike and somehow got the thing unstuck and running and then took an old off the shelf crank and gave it to Don claiming it was from his bike????? That is highway robbery if that is the case.

Another scenario might be where they freed up his engine gave him an old crankshaft saying this is what we removed and then ordered a new one from headquarters and kept it. Calling IMZ might not make a difference

Common scam. Usually mechanic and parts guy are in cahoots. Rig warranty part to function, they don't care for how long (more warranty work later), charge company for warranty work, keep new part to sell and split money, hand you paperwork showing warranty work performed. Had this happen on a new truck I bought years ago. Caught them red handed. Went all the way to Dertroit with my complaint. Zilch happened at local or headquarter level. Last time I have ever taken a vehicle in for repair. Rather do it myself.

Agree, they order a crankshaft, fixed the old one, report they installed a "new" crankshaft and pocket the new one so they are now always $3000 ahead of the game.

There is always an alternative scenario, where Ivan was short a new crankshaft on the assembly line and figured this repaired one was "good enough."
