HELP! Re: EFI - Where should I be looking please?

Woe unto you that bought the first model year of a major remake, perhaps this section can help address any 2014 and later model Ural "imperfections". Here's a special section for folks with the latest rigs to discuss 2014 and later model-related topics such fuel injection, 3-wheel disc brakes, hydraulic steering dampers, spin-on oil filters and other anomalies that don't belong on true Russsian motorcycle ;-P We've gone from using big hammers and greasy wrenches to needing computers and Ouija boards in order to fix our rigs.
Forum rules
Please keep this section specific to issues pertaining to 2014 and later models such as fuel injection, sidecar and rear disc brakes and so forth. Ask general or non-2014 and later specific questions in the main Hammerin' & Wrenchin' section.

HELP! Re: EFI - Where should I be looking please?

Post by scottmastrocinque » Mon Apr 09, 2018 11:38 pm

Hi Everybody,

I have my new 2017 Gear Up and I will be doing her first break-in service soon.

Unbelievably, Ural provides NO INFORMATION WHATSOEVER for syncing the EFI.

I can work with EFI on BMW, Ducati, Piaggio, Vespa, Moto Guzzi, and many others, but this Ural EFI seems to be the worst best kept secret I've ever seen and especially since dealers are few and far between. Really Ural? Really?

I have spent days searching this forum and I cannot find a simple answer to how to balance EFI on my new 2017 Gear Up. I've a garage full of motorcycles with EFI and tools, and I am also a very competent mechanic, but this is insane. I cannot believe how vague everybody is and how much conflicting information there is and how old a great deal of the information is. Do I build a tool, and if so, which way, or do I drill vacuum ports on the EFI bodies and do it the old fashioned way, or do I just shoot myself and get it over with... Arrggg... WWID?!?

Can anyone please clarify this issue and point me to the thread that can help me? I'll take any help at this point as I am so flustered with the 23 pages of conflicting information I've found so far.

I would really appreciate some assistance! Thank you.

Here's the mother of all EFI service threads. There's quite a bit of chaff, but has everything one needs. Hardest part is making the OBD2 tool adapter cable, and even that is darn easy.
I was a total EFi noob, and figured it out no problem, should be a snap for anybody with experience.

Thanks! I thought that was the one but it's a bit of a mess. I guess there is no other way than to wade through it!

Do you know if all EFI's are the same for Ural including the connectors being the same for all years of Ural EFI?

Thank s again!

Yes, a lot of chaff but even that was educational for me.
No, the 2017 and later are different,

This is what you need to convert a generic cable to fit your Ural,

So this is what I was talking about that's confusing to me. So, I don't need the Molex Connectors, I need these instead?

Yes, that's correct, they changed to a waterproof round 4 pin connector.

Newark shows the pins on back order, here's another source,

Barry I really appreciate this but do you know any other suppliers?

The first place has a 1000 piece minimum order for $223 worth of pins!

And the second place is 50 minimum for $23 !

Nah, it was my bad. I'm tired and it's late here and I should be asleep. I searched the OEM part numbers and found a supplier with everything (all 3 parts) that sells individual and ships for about 6 bucks. Thanks so much!

Ok! I've ordered all the parts necessary to craft the cables. I will order the OBD Pro upgrade after I receive the basic cable and software. Hopefully, this will go smooth! Thanks you again Barry! Much appreciated!

No problem, I'm recouping from hernia surgery, it's a pleasant respite from my inactivity.
If you run into any technical issues with hardware or software, Albuquralque, Tomcatfixer, and Burt1713 should be able to set you straight.

Maybe I shouldn't confuse the issue further, but it did occur to me that, providing you know which of the 4 wires do what, there's nothing to stop you wiring up your own preferred style of connector.

I'm seriously considering drilling the vacuum ports in my throttle bodies because all we're doing is adjusting the stops on the butterfly valves to let in the right amount of air on one cylinder vs the other.
