Lost Power

Woe unto you that bought the first model year of a major remake, perhaps this section can help address any 2014 and later model Ural "imperfections". Here's a special section for folks with the latest rigs to discuss 2014 and later model-related topics such fuel injection, 3-wheel disc brakes, hydraulic steering dampers, spin-on oil filters and other anomalies that don't belong on true Russsian motorcycle ;-P We've gone from using big hammers and greasy wrenches to needing computers and Ouija boards in order to fix our rigs.

Please keep this section specific to issues pertaining to 2014 and later models such as fuel injection, sidecar and rear disc brakes and so forth. Ask general or non-2014 and later specific questions in the main Hammerin' & Wrenchin' section.

Lost Power

Post by Basset1 » Fri Dec 22, 2017 9:28 am

Just got my new to me, used 2015 ct, road it to the Harley shop to show off reverse to my old riding buds. On the way home it started to lose power, could hardly make it up small hills, in 3rd and 4th the mil light would come on. After I got home I let it sit for few hours, rode it for 15 min and it was fine, any thoughts what might be going on.

Was it running on only one cylinder? Any more info you can share on what was happening?

No, both cylinders seemed fine, was if something was dragging it down, like driving with the parking brake on, it wasn’t

A couple of things. You could look into your rear brake for two things.

1. Make sure the rear brake parking brake cam is adjusted correctly. If it isn't, then it could cause the rear brake to drag a little. The more you ride the pads will heat up and expand (happened to me once when I first bought mine)
2. Make sure of the position of your right foot when riding. It is very easy for your right foot to rest on the clevis for the sidecar brake linkage. Doing this will also engage the rear brake and possibly cause the same as above.

However, if your MIL light was coming on then it does seem like it wouldn't be a brake problem. You can go through the manual and get the blink codes to tell you why the MIL light was coming on.

That's where I would start. Blink test described in your owners manual. Might be and ign/computer component heating up and misbehaving.
PS: this "forums tech support" subforum is for forum glitches. Try posting in the "order of the greasy wrench"/2014 and later section. You'll likely get more response.

Yes get any error codes; with the ignition on, engine not running, toggle the kill switch off & on 6 times. (off/on/off/on/off/on.) Altho might only work if the MIL is lit up. But codes should be stored and can be read via a OBD cable.

Have you checked the vent line on the gas tank? Also checking the fuel filter and strainer might by a good idea.

Check the spark plug wires, the coil end is suspect.
