Ride for Kids ride and the Hudson.

Post by Gwtg » Mon Aug 05, 2019 5:05 pm

I was asked if I wanted to be a VIP escort for the annual Ride for Kids by another SSteed member this year. It supports research to cure pediatric brain cancer. I did it last year but it was really hot in the upper 90's. Last Saturday stayed in the high 80's which was comfortable for a ride through the Hudson Valley area. Last year I had a cancer survivor in the hack but this year I had a family member of a child who is battling this disease. The other rider never showed up so my Ural was alone in a near sea of Harley's. There was a Harley sidecar outfit. The owner inherited it from his father. His father would ride it when he was older attached to his oxygen tank in the hack.

The rider didn't speak English well and bolted as soon as we parked. I think he enjoyed it. On the way home I went to see if Rt 218 from Cornwall to West Point was open as I hadn't driven on it in 40 years. It's cut into the side of Storm Mountain along the Hudson and not open during the Winter. It was closed for awhile due to rock slides. It was open and afforded a beautiful view of the River.
