Thermal Appalacia Tour

Post by Thermos » Fri Jun 29, 2012 7:28 pm

So...

I don't have a planned route(except stopping in Albany, NY where my brother lives, and stopping in Baldwyn, Mississippi where my parents live).

I don't want to feel stressed that I didn't make it to a particular location.

I plan on NOT paying for camping. EditOK, so I lied.

I have a machete, so zombies, chupacabra's, sasquatch, and slithering creatures need to take heed.

No major highways.

I don't have a schedule( I want to be back before the screw rally in NH for sure)

The orange anvil is almost ready to go...(need to install my water sprayer setup still).

The air filter has been cleaned, fluids have been changed, the valves have been checked, and new silicone valve cover gaskets installed. I have a new pusher tire, a good uralshina on the front, and a great sidecar tire. The spare has some meat on it.

I will be updating this thread with tapatalk, so locations where I post can be visible, and I can update from the road.

I've never been through some of these states, so I hope to see "the real deal" on my journey.

The date of departure is July 3rd. :)

get ready to be pulled over a lot. indana and 5 other states are doing drunk / seat belt checks. that means stopping all the cars on a given road at times. going to be a good 4 of july. if we can get some rain.

I'll be there at the Screw rally in NH, so at the least I'll see both of you there. I haven't been to that one yet, so it should be a good time!

It would be cool. I don't have any definite dates planned at all( I don't want to cramp your style due to my lack of any planning at all)

Maybe either way down, or back?

I'll try and PM ya if I'm close.

I’m exited about it, this will be my 1st out of state motorcycle road trip. Been riding for a while but haven’t taken a major road trip yet. Van has been gracious enough to offer to ride together, it will be great to ride w/someone who has a lot of experience
The Weare rally looks like a lot of fun, this should be a fun trip. :D

Enjoy your ride, stay safe!!!!

Here's a suggestion for you:

If you run the Blue Ridge Parkway from start to finish, you end up in Cherokee NC. Plan to spend an hour or so checking out the Cherokee stuff. You can buy switchblades in the stores there  since you are in the Cherokee Nation.

An hour ride or so from Cherokee is Iron Horse Motorcycle Lodge/campground. That can be a good destination and a decent camping place, but it costs money.

From Iron Horse you can run The Tail of the Dragon up, and back. Then stop in the store and get the sticker and t-shirt. Then you can run the Cherohala Skyway and be in Tellico Plains TN all in the same day.

If interested, you can then stay at my house in Cleveland TN which is an easy, safe (straight road, no deer or critters- just bugs if it's dark) run of about an hour from Tellico to Cleveland down Rt411, then west on Rt64.

You can do laundry at my house and unload the rig. I'll free up the next day and I could guide you around the forest service roads for a long day's offroad adventure, then back to my house for AC, and a comfortable night's rest before loading up the rig and your clean clothes and heading back out on your trip.

Scott

No problem...

btw- even though I live in Tennessee, I do have indoor plumbing (both hot and cold running water) and electricity.
