Rib Eye Steak Ride

Post by Oldtimer » Tue Feb 02, 2010 2:03 pm

For those of you that haven't followed our Ride Planning post, Charlie (UralCT) and I are leaving Feb 6th for about a 4000 mile ride through the southern states and on to Death Valley for Mr. Cob's gathering then onward west to the coast to visit people. We will be meeting other Uralists along the way who have either offered us lodging/tent space, Rib Eye steaks, conversation, workshops, etc. :) This morning was a preliminary ride for me to make sure everything was situated right and for Charlie to break in his newly replaced Final Drive unit. Charlie had about a 115 mile trek to the restaurant in Winona, TX and I was only 34 miles away but he needed the miles for break in. As you can see. he made it fine.

Image

I found this little breakfast place one day when riding the back roads to Tyler State Park. As you can see by the double plates in front of Charlie, he really worked up an appetite riding that far.

Image

Charlies hitch and trailer will be in tomorrow so he will have it all together and we will meet again Sat night at Lake Mineral Wells State Park. Stay tuned.

The temperature this morning was in the low 40's I believe as it's only 48 now and it's late afternoon. I'll be leaving from North East Texas,(Longview) and Charlie from Plano, TX which is north of Dallas. He is fairly close(under 100 miles) to our first night camping at Lake Mineral Wells and I'm just over 200 away.

The morning had arrived. After days and days of packing and re-packing, nothing more should be added, I hope. The last week or so has been rain, cold and fog but this morning was different. For the first time in awhile the sun was out in all its glory. Temperature was in the low 40's but that's better than it's been.

Image

The road looked clear of morning traffic so it was time to head off to meet up with Charlie, a couple hundred miles away.

Won't mention that both had ribs intead of rib eye at the Mineral Wells mesquite pit restaurant. There staying the night a Mineral Wells state park and continue on there adventure tomorrow. Couple of great guy's and I really loved there rigs, which were well loaded for the trek. Unfortunately my humble tourist is in numerous pieces right now and had to ride out to meet them on my stinking Harley.

That's Charlie on the left and Barry on the right hang out in the Mesquite pit parking lot.
