New Spin On Oil Filter – 2014 to 2018

Post by Crawford Sales Co. » Wed Mar 14, 2018 8:32 am

It has taken over a year but the HIFLO Oil Filter for the newer bikes is now available. My band saw did not like cutting this filter in half so the cut away picture does not show the pressure relief valve or the anti-drain back valve that is inside every filter. This filter has been manufactured to the Ural factory specifications.
Price - 9.40 each
4 Pack - 28.00

The bikes up to 2013 use the older style filter.

One perk of these filters over the others, for 2013 and older, is they're short enough to clear the crossover pipe with minimal problem. Never understood why people removed their exhaust to change their filter when they could just use these.

I like these filters and they may clear the crossover pipe, but I would need the adapter and that added thickness will not allow me to use this system.

I hope this is not a stupid question but here I go. Is the filter actually large enough and would it not be better if it had more surface area and the ability to hold more oil? The earlier filters look like they have more area to filter and also a larger volume.

Yes, the spin on filter for the 2019 is the same as the 2014-2018, and 2013 and earlier spin on adapter kit.

A filter is sized to suit the design and duty cycle of a given application. Adding surface area beyond what is needed would mean that you could extend your change interval. But the larger filter would cost more. So probably a w@$#.

Having greater volumetric capacity would only be beneficial if the original design was marginal to start with, or if the machine would see severe duty and benefit from the additional cooling.

Keep in mind its not the filtration but the oil condition that really dictates good or bad. And you are filtering a lot less oil.

Do the first change early per Ural and the rest is .............................

Run synthetic is hugely more advantageous than a bigger filter.

My F250 has a filter that is not a lot larger. The defacto filter was a design from the 50s and became standard.

The F250 had clearance issues and they looked at it and it was, we will use a half size filter and never looked back. 100k and doing fine (and yes I run synthetic though more for cold start ops than the top end heat the Ural would be more helped with)

Shoot, I worked on a Deutz air cooled diesel out in the Philippines at Clark AFB that we figured had 20k on it and it only had a screen.
Lat we hear they had unburried it from the Pinatubo ash and hauled it over to Subic and it was backup for a hospital section.
