Hi Lofty,

Just to be clear - this is what we have in mind....on the same page?

Next production run, we are definitely changing to a slot. We will see if we can make the sheet metal brackets taller too.
Hi, Emily.

If by "taller" brackets, you mean longer ones, that doesn't appear to be necessary. Per the photo of the current, in-stock guard on your website, it appears that there's enough space between the headlight lens and the guard to allow sufficient fore-and-aft movement (with the addition of slots in the brackets) to minimize the space between the lens and the guard mesh. That's what I'm interested in here: closing up the gap between the lens and the mesh, so that the guard looks and fits snugly, like the original version pictured in this post: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=53197&p=676627#p676627

I just wanted to be clear on the design goals here for v2.0 of the headlight guard. Let me know if you require a beta tester. :)

Thanks again.

How much "give" does that mesh have? If you put it too close to the headlight lens, do you not run the risk of an object pressing the mesh into the lens, thereby defeating the purpose of the guard? (Unless, of course, the guard was only there for aesthetic purposes.)

....a slot would allow the owner the preference of adjusting the length/distance.... 1.5" ± is sufficient clearance for "passive" protection from foreign object damage. I am curious to learn what length would be required to allow enough room to pivot 60 degrees or so in the 12 o'clock/6 o'clock position to clean the lens without removal....looking forward to the final product.

FWIW, I am quite pleased with the fit and finish of my "seconds" tail light guard.

Hi Tomcat,

The mesh is very stiff. It does not bend much if at all, under normal pressure. During manufacturing, we use a steel tool to form it.

Theoretically, a large, fast bird strike could push it in a bit, but that's not really a risk due to the fact that our bikes are not fast enough to achieve this sort of terminal velocity. :D

Thanks, Matt! Glad you like it.

Before we make the change, we'll take a few measurements to see if we can achieve an upwards "tilt" while still being loosely mounted.

We have also felt the pain of threading those mounting bolts back in, they seem to crossthread easily. Best to not need to remove them at all if possible.
