Installed mine yesterday. Shipping was quick and Sean could not have been more help if he was there installing it with me. The instructions were easy to follow and had no problems. What a DIFFERENCE ... Steering is much better than with the friction damper and those bumps in the road don't jar the rig now. If you are going to do just one improvement to you rig, this is it, money well spent. Thanks Sean ...

200km on mine so far and I couldn't be happier with the improvement. I was really worried about how it was going to look as I didn't want my 2012 to look too "new tech", but still wanted something more durable and effective than the friction damper. I really didn't want the Ural hydraulic ones, even the new ones. They just don't look right. The R3W blends in as if it were a 3rd sidecar strut. Which also doesn't look right, but in my mind still preserves the general look. Either way, trust us. It's worth it. Completely different ride.

I promised Sean I'd post a comment after installing the R3W steering damper on my 2015 cT, but I wanted to get some road time on the unit.

I received and installed the unit in late October 2016 with 4,200 km on the clock. Today (13 Feb 18) I have 8,906 km and no issues whatsoever with the unit. It has acquired some light surface rust on the L bracket and the washers on the heim joint, but there are no leaks or noted shortcomings anywhere else.

How does it perform?

Well, when maneuvering the rig by hand around the yard/driveway it feels a bit like a car with manual steering, smooth but somewhat heavy. But not unmanageable at all. And once underway, all is really smooth. Steering feels even and unimpeded. There's no head shake, yaw or vibration. The steering does not feel heavy while moving.

My stock hydraulic damper failed, before 5 months/4,000km had passed, having purchased the unit in mid-May 2016.

Sean's unit has now been in service without issue for 4,900 km and 16 months without issue. I stored the unit inside for most of last year, but this year, since late summer, it has lived on my partly covered breezeway, "partly" exposed to the elements. This probably explains the appearance of the surface rust.

Final verdict: Excellent product!

Hi Sean
I've tried emailing a couple times but not sure they were delivered. I ordered your R3W damper kit and received it last week. However, there were no instructions or paperwork of any kind included in the package. After some head scratching I think I got it figured out. but I would still like to see a copy of the instructions to check my work. By chance are they posted somewhere on line?

Check the email that you have listed with PayPal. I email the installation instructions to that email.

Sean, I also received mine without instructions. While installation looks pretty straight forward, could you post a link to the instructions or email them to me. Thanks.

Hey guys, I installed Sean’s R3W damper kit today. I have a question about the old friction damper that was on the scooter. How many people completely remove it? Should I leave it on and loose just in case something fails on the R3W?

Don't know, but I can tell you that THIS guy did.

If it's not in your way, then leave it on. I removed mine to accommodate alternative handlebar options. Also, if, for some reason, the damper fails, replacement Volkswagen dampers are cheap and plentiful.

Sean's heavy duty damper is unlikely to fail. Two bolts remove the stock one. Five minutes.

I've left my friction damper in place. Nothing else to really put there. It's loose and not bothering anything.
