New Sidecar Girl

Post by agirlandhersidecar » Sun Jan 03, 2021 10:37 pm

Hey all, new sidecar girl here! Long story short, my dad has come into a barnyard find of a Ural sidecar. Im 14 years old and he has "given" it to me as a project to get up and running over the next 2 years. Im sure we will be using this site for information as well for posting questions. Right now I just wanted to introduce myself. By just a quick glance, it looks like everyone seems to be really nice and hopeful with questions; when able to. I would really appreciate if you check out my instragram: @agirlandhersidecar and snapchat: @girlwithsidecar

Thanks, SideCar Girl

Ditto, we tend to be on the older side and those new dangled social media thingies just not what we are.

Clearly not much help from me as its an older Ural and they have a history all of their own.

There are some highly experienced Ural owners here that do know the old iron. Amazingly there seems to be parts to be had for them as well.

Best of luck with the project.

I would have loved having something like that to learn wrenching on when I was 14! Hopefully you get it running, it will be a blast to ride.

That's awesome. What a great project. Welcome and enjoy! I'll follow on IG. I am @cefotog

I have to add, my first car was a 1971 VW Super Beetle. I bought it, and my dad and I rebuilt it and put it back on the road. We had to cut out rust, weld in new metal and paint it, and do a few mechanical repairs. I wouldn't trade the time I spent with my dad doing that for anything in the world. I ended up with a great car and I learned a lot along the way.

Hmm, only 14 years old. Very cool! Your Ural is pretty new according to your odometer reading of 1178 kilometers.
Welcome! Fix it up and enjoy giving ride to your dad.

Congratulations! Fixing up the rig will make it more special to you, and going forward you'll know how to repair it. That will save you $$$'s, but to me wrenching is part of the fun.

Hiya from Illannoy. My daughter got her start wrenching on a 1954 Nash Rambler. You'll do fine.

Put down your location in your signature block. There might be folks nearby.

Crawford Sales http://www.crawfordsales.info/ is your go to for parts and assistance.

There are a lot of knowledgeable folks on this site who I’m sure will help.

A lot of information on older Urals is applicable even if it’s not specific to your year model because they didn’t change that much.

In the maintenance section there are videos of both 650cc and 750cc maintenance from Ural. A good starting point to just get yourself acquainted with your rig.

Myural.com is another go to site. Based on a slightly newer version, as I said, much of it will apply.

The search function on this site is pretty good. May have to hunt around a bit, but everything and anything has been covered at some point.

Best of luck.

my daughter started wrenching at the age of 3 on my 1960 Willies....she used to go on my Jawa rig all over the farm- but at age 16 her boyfriend talked her out of bikes.... until now after University she might get back into rig pushing.

myural.com will be of great help. While newer than yours, much will remain the same.

russianiron.com will have some resources. http://www.russianiron.com/eafranke_ura ... _pdf2.html is Ernie Franke's attempt to document everything ever about Urals and Dneprs.
