Wheel Base of a Ural

Post by JackReno » Mon Nov 25, 2019 5:55 pm

I have a ATV rack on my truck, however its only 72 inch's long, was wondering about the length of a Ural from front of tire to center of back of tire and if it will fit on my truck rack, I don't care if I have some overhang out the back of truck just wondering if the tires will fit on 72 inch length rack.
I know the width is fine.

I am about to get a new Ural and will it fit or do I need a trailer.

Manual says overall length is a gnat's shy of 100 inches, say take off a foot.

You are aware also it could be upwards of 750 lbs wet, which may be more of an issue perhaps. (?)

Got a copy of a drawing of the rig in the manual, put it in Paint Shop, did some comparative measurements and if drawing is accuarate it seems that from front of tire to centre of rear wheel spindle is bang on 72 inches.

My rack/truck can carry 1600 lbs so weight is not a issue, I did just find that the wheel base is 58 inches, that's from center axle front and center axle back, however from front rack to back of atv rack is max 72 inch, what I need to know is where the front tire hits the front of truck where will the back tire sit ?

Thanks, that is cutting it close with no room for error, I can just get a trailer but I tow my Tacoma behind my motorhome and like to carry my toys in truck so I don't have to triple tow or double tow as its known, its illegal in many states..

Thanks for the replies and link of dimensions, it appears the front tire will hit the cab rack before the back tire is completely on the rack, either modifications of rack or a trailer, looks like a trailer.

Thanks.

perhaps you could load the bike at an angle and or turn the handlebars to gain a few more inches.

The width maybe a bigger issue. Also a Retro or M70 are slightly longer do to the telescoping front forks.

Width is not a issue, the rack sits on top of bed sides, not in bed, the rack itself is wide enough, the length is 72 inches from truck cab guard to back of rack, it appears I am around 5-6 inches to short for the bike to rest on top of rack safely..

Can you put a sheet of 3/4" plywood on the rack and get a bit more length that way?

I would say put a long ramp or a ladder under front and back wheels. Secure that ladder in the front to the floor. :D
