Miss my Ural and looking to replace it with a 2007 Gear Up

Post by oldducguy » Tue Aug 07, 2018 5:15 pm

The only bike I ever regret selling was my Ural. Or maybe... the one I regret the most... I'm looking at a 2007 GearUp that has some throttle sync issues... or rather it doesn't run past 1/4 throttle... the price is right... but wondering if the almighty power of the internet knows of a reason why this sounds like a bad decision?

... maybe only if you don't know how to service it yourself ?

Lots of reasons why it might not want to run up past 1/4 throttle. How are your diagnostic skills?

Are there marks on the throttle so you know you’re at 1/2 throttle?

Run past 1/2 throttle? You mean no apparent increase in power? A please to look would be at the jets. The Main jet may be causing the cylinder flooding or starving.

Check air filter - over oiled.

There are more but someplace to start.

For me it'd depend on buy-in price?
If no other obvious issues it's prolly just something easy and cheap to cure. As Lokiboy mentioned jets would be a likely start. Could just be dirty from sitting long time in bad fuel. Maybe gonzo jetting installed by PO. Botched syn/balance. Valves out of adj. Whacky ignition. If the price were right a good 07 will be worth spending some hands on time.
Best of luck.

$3500 is asking. Bike is fairly mint looking. With some extras. Seems like jets or a carb synch.

When you give it more than quarter throttle the right carb sputters and you get some black liquid spray out the right exhaust. Probably unburnt fuel. Then it dies. Seems like main jet on the carb too rich?

I'd want to run a compression check before buying.....A hole in a piston came to mind reading about black liquid coming out of it. :o

Oh, a slight tear in the carb diaphragm could also be a contributing cause.
