Up until the 2017 model was announced, I never really felt the newer rigs offered enough difference for me to leave the 2008 and 2010 myself and my wife ride. With the 2017 that seems to have changed. Mind you, I'm not running out first and buying one, that's what you are for. I will keep an eye on the 2017 model and look forward to the 2018. Who knows, I'm thinking it may be time to upgrade in the next 18 months.

R there any statistics on reliability of "new" rigs vs older models. I have a 2010 and when I purchased it it was advertised as having significant "upgrades". Overall I would have to say Lara has been reliable. And if something goes wrong I can pretty much fix it with the help of all the support from guys on the soviet steeds Fuel inject and other "modern" upgrades R beyond my level of expertise and comfort zone. If I could find a brand new 2010 patrol I'd consider upgrading. Need reliability data on 2017 to convince me to buy new one. When you follow the threads seems like guys having probs with newer models. Even saw it where one dealer could convert new model back to carbs for a buyer

The OP was hot to trot for a couple days and hasn't been to the board since.

While I like the Urals, gut feeling is a serious change will be happening in the next couple years (larger engine?). One of those, if I buy a new one, two weeks later they'll announce, kinda feelings.

I'd also like to get some data on the new Chang Jiangs and would suggest he buy one so we can sit back and watch.

New Urals, new problems. These machines are crafted in small batches and any upgrades or changes year over year carry risk of being inadequately tested before being introduced.

I believe the most common issues on the 2014-2015 models are:
- leaking steering damper
- low fuel indicator does not work
- dodgy parking brake
- faulty throttle body butterflies

All issues with parts new to these model years, all are either resolvable or ignorable, and none will leave you stranded (unless you forgot to fill up your jerry can  )

In nearly two decades of riding and working on Urals, my '14 is the one I would trust most to get me cross-country without a trunk full of spares. If money is no object, buy a '17 and know it will be the best Ural has ever made.

That said, buying a new one is almost never the best thing to do if you're concerned about value. Resale value plummets and it's possible to buy a '14 or even '15 for little more than half what you'd pay for a '17.

God forbid financing a new one and deciding a Ural is not for you. You'll be so far underwater you'll be stuck and miserable and grouching about it all over the internets

That is interesting. I would like to see more.

The article mentions CJ750's costing 14,000 Euro... I don't know what they're smoking.

I first heard about the new CJ's here: http://www.sovietsteeds.com/forums/view ... 10&t=47102

70hp, chain drive, Google Translate is interesting but some info (press release photos) at: http://www.newmotor.com.cn/html/cpkd/80299.html

I think the Morotrcycle-Magazine article has prices backwards. The price of the new CJ will be almost exactly the same as a Ural CT, and I suspect that's the 14,000 Euros after import. It's listed MSRP at 74,700 yuan, similar to the 634,000 rubles for a CT.

$7,000 Euros might be a pristine old CJ, dunno.

New? Eh, If you have the cash why not give it a go. Personally I always try to buy a couple of years old when shopping for vehicles.

Did I miss something? The survey gives answer choices of yes/no. But says u can select up to two choices. Does that substitute for undecided. Lol

Wow......that's $20,000 more than what I paid for my Troyka a year and a half ago. Of course mine came with 40 kilometers on it, compared to the 36 kilometers on this gear up. I can't begin to imagine what one could possibly do to a Ural, to make it worth that kind of money.

But....I'm sure someone will come along with more dollars than sense, and take it off their hands.

2000 BMW R1200C "Schultz"
1999 BMW R1200C "Dooley"

When I was dealing with local Honda dealership in the early 1980s that's what they did. Jacked price up a couple thousand by adding frivolous stuff. Then gave $759 discount to make u feel good. Depending onhow much local stuff they added or did to it should get few thousand more off
