Okay, you guys have missed one of the most important questions.... My wife is a sturdy gal. How wide is the seat in the tub? And are all the tubs the same size, model to model? Looking at the New Urals, the cT is my leading choice at this time.

IndigoWolf, all the same ,but the 2017 seat cushions are nicer, also they sell after market seats with extra padding and some extra height in back. my wife isn't here so ill tell you she is 5ft 4"and 180 lbs and loves the seat on my 2016GU, when we come back from a ride she doesn't want to get out,its that comfortable to her.

I am heading back to the dark side and have Questions #21 and #22 and would appreciate a little input regarding purchasing a new GU.

Over the years I have owned a CJ750 (worked on it almost every time I rode it) and a 2008 GU (still on Ski's home page it was so pretty). Rode lots of 2 wheels. My current ride is a 1992 GSPD.

Biting the bullet next week but would appreciate some feedback.

#21) How does the standard matte finish hold up compared to the clear coat type custom paints?

#22) How does the black drive train hold up? I love the looks. I have wondered if the thickness of the powder coat would have an effect on running temperature (I know, most likely way over thinking).

My first time posting on this forum though I have been reading it for years.

Thanks for any input!

Just purchased a 2018 GU. FWIW, when I was looking at color options, the dealer (Ural of NE) dissuaded me from any of the matte colors. They apparently don’t hold up as well and are most certainly difficult to repair in event of a nick or scratch (if you care about such things.) The semi-matte apparently holds up much better, which is what I ended up with.

The same dealer orders virtually all of their bikes with the black powder coat (and undercoating.) I don’t have any specific knowledge of how durable the powder coat is, but after 2700 miles mine is doing just fine. Many air cooled engines (e.g., Harley’s) are powder coated black. I can’t imagine it has any measurable affect on running temps.

2018 GU owner here also. Mine is Burgandy Satin, which is one of the 3 standard satin colors for the GU and the cT for MY2018. All of the $1K optional premium colors are gloss, with some having a metallic content.

Can you give us some clarity on what is meant by matte and semi-matte? Those terms aren't used on the IMZ-Ural website as it concerns paint color choices, including the camo patterns, for any of the 2018 Ural models. Thanks.

Sometimes they don't spell things out, but the camo colors are flat, the 2017 OD green I ordered my 2018 M70 in is listed as "flat", and listed as such for the touch up paint.
It does scratch easier than gloss, but a wipe of Boeshield hides it. w@$#ing it with Turtelwax w@$#&w@* made it a little more of a satin, and more resistant to scratching. Personally I don't think its enough of a liability to rule it out if its ones preferred color.

My GU is (so far) a one-of-a-kind color, Aurora Gray, custom color prepared for Ural of NE by IMZ. I believe in Ural terms it is "satin."

17) Q: I want to have my rig trailered. What size trailer do I need?
A: Basically a trailer that is 6ft. X 10 ft is fine. Owners have made modified trailers. Another search topic.
--------------------------------
Would it be a good idea to mention a minimum of a 7 X 10 enclosed trailer. Or has this been mentioned.

I guess I think of the satin colors as matte finish. I ended up getting the satin Grey with without the blacked out engine. What can I say except that I'm cheap and will end up beating the heck out of it any way.
