Well hell. I finally got around to reading this thread.

Way to go Spat on getting the Ural! Now there'll be a whole slew of Ural riders in the Rockies. We're going to have to setup a meet somewhere.

I just happen to know of a real nice group campground at Camp Hale that can be had real reasonably. If you guys all are really interested I'll check on dates available and see what I can set up.

Is that the old 10th Mountain Division site?

Nice setting... it was about 20 years ago we "discovered" this place, a buddy and myself were looking for a "long-cut" from Vail to Denver and just happened upon the site... weren't sure exactly what it was initially, but after wandering around for half and hour decided it was the remains of the 10th M.D...

I didn't know they had a specific place for camping, of course it's been several years since I went by, things change

Sounds like the right place for the Colorado Riders And Posers-Ural (C.R.A.P. U.) annual meeting  (me currently being one of the Posers... but not for long)...

Anyway, is there an established campground there now? State park? National Park?

There are 2 national forest campgrounds there. One of them is a regular hosted campground and the other is a reservable group campground. A couple of years ago I grabbed the group campground for a bunch of the Rokon guys from around this part of the country and we spent a week camped there riding the Rokons around. The group campground is pretty nice and real reasonably priced for a gathering of motorcycles and such.

I assume there is an overabundance of trails to be explored in the vicinity?

How far in advance would you suggest making plans... in order to get a group site...

I'm using up two weeks of this years vacation allotment to get the rig, maybe a weekend thing... like Paonia, eh?

The good riding roads and trails are all over the area, the only bad part is it's about twenty five miles from my house.
There is always the Beemer rally in Paonia in July and the weekend after Labor Day is the Beemer rally in Sipapu. Paonia is a little too crowded for my taste but I have been known to show up for a night or two. I do love Sipapu though and haven't missed it in a while.

Our talks around the household before we poped for the Ural was to hang out in Colorado this year and do long weekends. Should be up for anywhere almost anytime.
Dana are any ROMPS in Colorado this year? Maybe C.R.A.P U R
Plenty of camping north of Woodland Park Pike National Forest full moon in August we call it the Revival. I think the Ural guys enjoyed it last year.

Don is having the big romp in Montana this year so I'll be there for a week and the week in Moab are the only big ones I have planned so far this year. I'll take 3 or 4 days for the Revival too. You guys want to spend some time running around Colorado and camping this Summer I'm in for some. I've been wanting to get down to the Wheeler geologic area around Pagosa Springs for a while.
