Ouch, but they will be thorough...wish I could give you my shop credit, long story. if you see her either say hi or kick my M70... They did not require me to bring either of my new ones in for initial service...on either motor (both had early motor issues, both have Sergey lower ends now) or the stud on the M70 would have broken on them at 30 ft-lbs...yeah, might be money well spent in the long run.

I had you in mind when I decided to let them do it. Besides, as I said, with the noises this thing is making I'm not so sure I'll get to ride it home. Sometimes it sounds really good, other times it sounds like something is hammering inside. I suppose it COULD be excessively loose valves.

The new speedo was put on yesterday, works great and you can actually see the lights on it during the day.

Don't forget, these things run like garbage until about 10K. Along the way you occasionally get this "hand of God effect" when suddenly and inexplicably it runs a bit better and smoother as you approach 10K and everything gets set. Sometimes, if really lucky you get to do this twice, on 2 different bikes that both had engines replaced/rebuilt under warranty...and just keep coming back for more... :foilhead:

I have a 2018 Ural Gear Up. It has about 2700 miles on it so it’s quite new. Today I noticed my speedometer was stuck on 45mph.... my whole ride. When I got home and stop the bike still said 45 mph. As I secure the bike for the night there was no way I could get the brake light or the clock to go off. Took a while for me to get the main light to go off. So what I’m reading here in these posts I probably need a new speedometer?

If the lights stay on, you might be turning the key switch to park instead of off? The clock is always on when the ignition is off, and can't be turned of. The speedo stuck at 45 is an issue.

There was a recall issued for the ignition switches on 2018 Gear Ups. I just received a new switch from my dealer. The detents at each key position are indeed more positive/secure when compared to the operation of the original switch (which worked fine.)

I didn't ask what other models, or model years, were affected by the recall. It might be worth your time to do so with your selling dealer.

Superb mechanic Pedro at Ural Portland is replacing the speedometer and I believe the starter tomorrow. Short and sweet. He has seen a few similar situations. The first thing I checked was that my key was in the right direction....knowing me 😀. The backlights were staying on also. I guess this is an ‘issue’. I’ll get more details tomorrow and post if there is interest.

I recall some BMW Airheads had a similar issue with turn the key off and lights staying on. If I recall correctly the problem was a bad diode in the headlight relay. Doesn't really help in this situation but sometimes goofy little things can cause interesting problems.

I did that once. Didn't notice it when I parked it, but saw the lights were on when coming out of the hardware store, and had the key in hand. It took a few minutes to realize what I did. :foilhead:

Not all 2018 had the switch issue, only a certain range of vins numbers. It was an issue where the wires connected to the backside.

Thanks for the clarification.

What is "an issue where the wires connected to the backside" meant to mean?
