Turn Button Fastener for Tonneau Cover

Post by IndyChizzle » Thu Mar 19, 2020 6:44 am

Can someone with a 2013 or newer Ural take a look at their tub, and let me know how the turn button fasteners are attached? I don't think they are screwed on, but can't figure out if they are somehow welded or riveted on.

Photo of a similar fastener is shown below:

The Common Sense Fasteners are simply pop-riveted to the tub's sheet metal.

Coincidentally, I just today removed the Common Sense Fasteners from a tub that I'm refinishing for a project bike, so you also get a look at the underlying holes.

may wanna consider a backup flat washer on the bottom side to spread out the load. Also helps when the holes get wallered* out when the pop rivet is drilled out.

loose and wallered out the hole, now it don't fit"), or (with contempt
for shade-tree mechanics) "to intentionally enlarge a hole in an
uncontrolled manner" ("that <deleted> just wallered out those holes
instead of using a drill bit of the proper size, now nuthin' fits right").

An excellent suggestion and my standard operating procedure, though the tonneau cover will rip and the brass Common Sense Fasteners will bend before the aluminum rivets wallow out the steel holes (I know from experience  ).
