Of course, as I'm sure Rob is aware, the true intent of my comment was to bust his huevos a bit.
HEY!! I'm a sensitive guy, ya'know.

And stay away from my steenkeeng huevos.

I do like the front grab bar. But I'm not a big fan of the chrome bezel/hood/quasi-nacelle on top of the fork. Another future project is to refit the bike with an M70 headlight or similar with the speedo in the headlight bucket and get rid of that chrome beanie.

I have the chrome on my 06 Tourist, I like the bling. It goes with all the other chrome bits on the bike. Nice job converting it over to a match all around.
So what you are trying to tell us is you are a chromosexual. :boogie:

Interesting (not for me) side note regarding my pin striping endeavors today.

When doing the right side of the front fender, the brake cable was in the way so I took a piece of masking tape and taped it to the plunger rod on my VW steering damper. Well, I forgot to take the tape off. Later took the rig for a ride and was helping a friend with his new barn and was running back and forth between his old and new barn with the Ural and making lock to lock turns. When I got home I remembered the tape. I went to remove it, and it was gone, well most of it anyway. Sticking out of the seal of the damper was a wad of tape. I spent the next hour with a dental probe carefully levering out masking tape from between the seal and the shaft. I was sure that I'd be going in and ordering a new damper to replace my now leaky damper. But to my surprise, patience and diligence paid off and the seal is not leaking. I'm amazed. I never should have been able to get away with what I did and not damage the seal. But some how, the seal survived. I suspect it is at least partly due to assuming the damper was toast and there was nothing to lose by trying. Sometimes, it would appear that giving up is the right approach.

Re: New look side covers - more dechromification

The dechromification of my Tourist continues.

I managed to score a pristine black dash from mSumell (Thanks Matt). It was part gloss and part flat black. But I was able to buff out the flat portion to be gloss. Came out perfect.

Today, I removed the old chrome dash and installed the black one. I never liked that chrome dash. Just did not go with the period look of the bike. This was my same gripe about the chrome side covers. But, I never realized what a difference that the black dash would make. It tied the entire bike together. The difference is rather striking, at least to me.

Now the bike has what one might call a 50's-60's Triumph Thunderbird look to the dash area. I really like it.

So, here are some pics.

Yep. Black dash is where it's at. You've made that bike look quite tasty.

Also, I sourced some chrome side covers (hopefully arriving tomorrow), so we'll see how those look on my Patrol. I'm just not "feelin'" the black side panels (ideally, they would be the same color as the tank/fenders).

Thanks guys. That Patrol looks pretty nice, too, Chad.

I would like to eliminate the tank seam. But not that much that I will unless a good tank falls in my lap. I have the original tank, but it is more of a sprinkler head.

Thought I'd resurrect this thread since what I did today is a continuation of last summer's mods.

With C19 eating up projects like Pacman, I remembered that the gray battery case on my Ural battery really bugged me after installing the black sidecover in place of the OEM chrome cover. So I dug thru my paint cabinet and found a can of Duplicolor Truck Bed Liner in a rattle can. I had bought this for another project and was not overly impressed with the stuff. But it was perfect for this. Tested it on an old battery case and it stuck pretty good. Shot my gray case battery yesterday and installed it this morning.

I realize it is not a big difference. It's subtle in the photos. But when you are standing next to the bike it not longer stands out. The battery just disappears sort of. Before it really stood out in all that black.
