I’ve had a GPR on my 18GU for about a week now and absolutely love but need to replace my skid plate ASAP as the winter off-road season is just around the corner. Has anyone had any luck tracking down a skid plate that is compatible with the GPR?

No doubt, it appears to be a quality system.

IMHO however, there is a design flaw of too much plumbing under the bike. Having ruined no less than three left exhaust headers playing off road, I think the other right side systems protect that vulnerable area better.

If you end up making your own skidplate Keith, I'd suggest it cover all the pipes below and curve up for those headers.

Kalaber Creations is currently working on modifying their skid plate to be compatible with the GPR exhausts; their skid plate covers the vulnerable parts of the exhaust headers, in addition to the oil sump and frame.

Also, Ural is supposedly going to be offering a compatible skid plate through their dealers in the near future.

So hopefully one comes through soon. Although I have no idea what Ural will offer, I think I’all probably prefer using the Kalaber Creations skid plate. It is made out of heavy gauge aluminum, so it won’t add a great deal of weight and it won’t rust everywhere it has been usefully skidded across rocks.

I like the looks and sound of the GPR but I already have a Kalaber skid plate. I picked up an extra set of factory head pipes and I'm going to order some pre-bent exhaust tubing and weld up my own 2 into 1 exhaust . It won't be as pretty as the GPR but it will be considerably cheaper.

I would say, “hey just copy the GPR exhaust,” but that would very difficult if you don’t have your own pipe bending jigs.

Your right, that would be difficult without a bender. I have a few more projects around the house to complete then it will be time to see what I can cobble together with the welder and grinder.

There's a market out there. If Modtop is no longer interested in serving it, who is?

I can only imagine the total cost to get those bought and shipped to the U.S., Barry.

Around $500 shipped. They can provide cheaper shipping upon request. I think Ural dealers might be able to special order them through IMWA too. They're a better quality muffler than the Modtops were. Not cheap, but $1000 cheaper than the GRP.

I got a set for my Patrol from IMWA that were a warranty return because of cosmetic rust, they were in the recycle dumpster and free for the taking. Got a scratch and ding Retro headlight the same way.

Lew assuming you're going for 'loud' and Modtops don't pan out. Check into the Dunstal knockoffs Ural dealers sell. Sound great working your way through the gears till you spend a day at hwy cruise speeds and the constant drone drives ya crazy. :(
