1960s style Cafe Racer!

Post by Nathan41 » Tue Jan 09, 2018 7:52 pm

Converted my 1999 Red Star 650's handlebars from the dorky soviet stock ones to some nice 1960s style 7/8 clubman bars which meant converting all the controls to 7/8. This included the throttle, which I put a Triumph/Norton twin cable throtle on it with barrel grips, with BSA B31 style clutch/brake levers, and replaced the ugly blocky switchgear with some nice 1960s replica switches as seen on Brit bikes. I also needed new offset 7/8 risers as the original wouldn't fit on the 7/8 clubmans.

Overall it came out awesome and now it really looks like a 1960s cafe racer. :D

the hot ticket here in the states back then was clip on bars and to remove the rear fender and install the small notched seat with the fiber glass or alum tail piece. looks great just brought back memories.

Same in the UK but rearset footrests were also a requirement ( unless one was dating an osteopathic healer used to dealing with back problems)

That looks nice. I love the look of cafe racers but my back would make it impractical to own one.
