I started looking at this and the more I though of it and weighed the cost and time of fabricating one of these, has anyone considered or looked into installing a canister filter like this one? https://dynamic.donaldson.com/WebStore/ ... item=15902

Been thinking of trying this and mounting it on the sidecar. Just curious if anyone had tried this and if there are any recommendation on the CFM needed for optimum performance?

If you do not want to do the Leftka build then a better solution would be to pick up a plastic Dnepr air box. It is a round cylinder which opens on one end. Easy to jury rig it with a couple of zip ties so it hangs from the frame. they sell for about $20 bucks. Personally, I would do the Leftka build since it is a work of art.

There have been many attempts at improving the air-boxes on these machines. Pretty much all of those attempts are posted somewhere in this forum. Using the search feature will help you find those discussions, which may or may not speak to the more technical aspects. I do remember an attempt at a remote filter done by Hubert Kriegel some years back. If I remember correctly it was mounted to the outboard side of the hack and did suffer from airflow issues at one point. Hubert has been on the road for the past 12 years and has done things on/to a rig that most of us can only dream of. I will post his link so you can search out that modification if you wish. :foilhead:

I had looked at Hubert's system and it seemed like a long way from the carbs and since the wife and kids like to go riding so it wouldn't be practical to put the filter housing there. I also looked at Raceways setup however that is a lot of dough for a simple air intake. Will get it figured out and hopefully post some pictures once I decide what to do.

Can someone tell me if the intake hole is on the bottom or the back of the Leftka 3 airbox?
Can't see in the photo, I'm guessing bottom.

I had put together most of the bits to make this airbox, and never got to it. My Ural just when home with a new owner today, posted the parts over in the black market for anyone still wanting to do this...
