V.I.N. research

Post by Kliff » Fri Jul 10, 2020 1:10 am

Is there any way, using the V.I.N. number to find out how a URAL was outfitted at the factory, and which dealer sold it here in the States?

My G.U. has a ton of options, that really appear professionally installed. Among them is the 2>1 high exhaust. Which has me wondering if it was deliverred with an "off-road tune."

If someone could point me in the right direction, I sure would appreciate it.

HHmm, interesting question. I'm gonna watch this one. Could be interesting if there's a way to "decode" your VIN...

Other than paint options, all accessories not listed as standard for a given model would be dealer or owner installed.
The off road fuel map is strictly from dealers supposedly for off road use only, and never factory installed as it would be a serious violation of EPA rules and regulations. The only way to know for sure if it's installed is for a dealer to access the EFI system with a dealer service tool.

^^ +1

Its great everything was installed well. 2 into 1 wouldn't be a factory, I'm a guessin its a raceway. Those things are pricey, nice to get it with a bike :)

Could the V.I.N. be used to track down the original selling dealer ?

Not by an individual through any public source.

IMWA/Ural would have such records, but I'm not sure if they can, or would release it. Some states have laws restricting access to owner info, and Washington is one of them. Not sure if it applies to dealers.

Have you tossed you VIN into a Google search to see what pops up?

Many dealers will list the VIN with their ads, the Google may show you any websites that previously posted the bike.

My Retro Googles and shows an old version of the Ural NE ad for my bike, with photos of when it was sparkley new.
