Bud Ekins

Post by stagewex » Sat May 09, 2020 7:35 am

They are doing a retrospective on Steve McQueen and more importantly his best buddy and stuntman Bud Ekins over at "Cine Meccanica". Bud passed-on back in 2007 but I was taken aback that he did this short interview while riding a sidecar rig and even "flys the chair" for a bit at the end. He was in so many movies good and bad but of course his main role was as Steve's stuntman in "The Great Escape"... Steve did all the riding but Bud did the famous jump(s). The studio and it's insurance company would not allow McQueen to do them. Great with your morning coffee or afternoon beer.

Here's the link to the interview which is about 5 minutes long:

and more of the story behind some of the movies and these 2 men here at Cine Meccanica itself. There's a good picture of him with the "Erik Von Zipper Gang" from all the Beach Blanket movies. Yeah, it was actually Bud doing all the real crashing, HaHa.

He's got a nice sidecar too, huh? Must be like riding an amusement ride in that hack with that suspension.
