OMG. People, get over your bad selves, please.

What was originally asked as a rhetorical question by the original poster, was presented as subtle humor. (Haven’t any of you ever read Mark Twain for crying out loud?)

Then, I added a comedy meme and a tongue-in-cheek retort, giggling all the while...

Then some of you cannot resist jumping on your soapboxes to give a dressing down for our faux pas! Are you kidding me?

It was humor! It’s the same humor presented through the ages. The humor of the differences between generations. It’s funny but you all had to go and lose your respective $#|? over it.

My 23, 25, and 26 year olds sons got the humor and they are a part of the brunt of the joke!

Snakeoil, you really are the most contentious man I’ve encountered in quite some time. Best to just ignore you.
But you can't, can you. You came here to make a negative comment that I did not agree with. I never attacked you, just disagreed with the premise. Yes, the shifter picture is a joke. It's gone around the internet many times. It was your comment about "the dumbest generation" I took exception to. Your response was to lecture the group about having a sense of humor and then justify what you did. When I questioned the validity of the statement you made you attacked me personally. I tend to think that what we have here is the pot calling the kettle black.

I've yet to see you make a contribution to this forum. If I remember right, the last time you piped up was because you took issue with my opinion that paying big bucks for farkles was counterproductive. You took personal offense, made personal attacks and quite frankly showed zero lack of restraint. You apparently take any disagreement with your opinion as a personal attack. I see you are a big boy, so probably use that size to dissuade others from disagreeing with you once they've seen how you react.

I'm actually saddened that arguing a point and challenging the justification results in personal attacks from you. That is a rarity on this forum. We all respect each other's opinions and argue them without getting personal or creating a lot of drama.

If you consider being referenced as "contentious". [(of a person) given to arguing or provoking argument.] as being a "personal attack" , there is nothing I can offer in response.

It's simply my observation and opinion.

You do seem obsessed with my physical size as this is not the first time you have referenced it. :?: :naughty: :puzzled:

First off, I'm very sorry that criminals did this to you. It is underserved and uncalled for. I despise thieves.

More than likely, they broke lose something along the drive line, more than likely at the clutch/flywheel. The drive line is designed to apply force in one direction, from the engine to the drive shaft to the wheel. Trying to bump start the bike, especially down a hill at speed and with the skid mark you describe, the forces would have been applied the opposite direction, from the wheel to the driveshaft to the clutch plates and flywheel. I have seen a few BMW flat twins damaged from hard bump starting.

There is no way that I could think of to have bent a crankshaft from bump starting. Bent cranks come from hydro locking or physical obstruction.

Another item to look at is the engine mount bolts and flanges. Are any of them broken? Given that the engine starts and runs but gets worse as you increase the rpm's, something has been loosened in the engine or it's mounts which becomes more noticeable at speed. Your gearbox and the rest of the bike are fine, because they would not cause the issue you are describing because they are not in motion.

Worth looking into more closely. Especially given that the engine runs.
WINNER-WINNER!!
CHICKEN-DINNER!!

SCOTTMASTROCINQUE nailed it! Broken front motor mount! Cracked right along the frame. Rear engine mount cross-bolt was also loose. We lashed the engine down to the frame very carefully and creatively with 3 tie-down straps and cinched them up tight. Started it up, revved it up, and vibration is almost gone!! Took the straps back off quick so they wouldn't melt.

THIS IS GREAT NEWS!! THE ENGINE INTERNALS ARE *PROBABLY FINE!!

Bad news of course is that we don't think it can be welded without taking the engine out. My buddy *wants to try it, but he can't guarantee not involving the engine case itself in the arc because it's just too tight in there. Plus, there's a lot of road grime in between the mount and block that really needs to be cleaned out for a good weld to happen. He also thought of grinding from the outside in, then welding his way back out, but said that's only if we don't take the engine out.

Wonder if the engine can be disconnected and jacked up in the frame. Looks like there's enough room above it for a little clearence.

Anyways, I don't have a welder, so I'll have to AAA the bike to his garage, have him remove/lift the engine, clean it, grind it, weld it, and squirt some paint on it. Given the fact that the next 10 days are in the 30's here, and I ain't getting any older, we've decided to spray the area well with WD40 and park it for the winter to be tackled in the spring. Yes, I'm a weak little nancy-boy for not riding much in the winter!

I am relieved beyond words that we didn't have to crack the case, (provided the broken mount was the only thing wrong).

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, though. They're greatly appreciated, and scottmastrocinque, what kind of beer do you want!?

Or this one...

I have. However, as in all things, there are wildly different levels of quality. I purchased mine from an American aircraft instrument maker who built it to order. I've seen the cheap asian import ones and they are junk in my opinion.

This American built one wasn't cheap, but not overly expensive. Excellent aircraft quality. A professional precision instrument. Watertight. Works perfect. Matches my laser thermometer readings exactly.

Personally, I love it, especially when super slabbing. I like to monitor what is going on.

I knew you couldn't ignore me.

I stand corrected. The suggestion of a broken motormount was a helpful contribution. And yes, I did forget. Gray hair tends to leave details like who said what by the wayside.

So, let's not waste anymore forum bandwidth on drama and simply agree that we just don't get along and leave it at that.

My original post was something like...The Lone Ranger joke was obvious to me...but was met with a blank stare....now the young lady was fairly intelligent, not exposed to the 'Lone Ranger' as a child....I'm sure he really used silver bullets and he wasn't doing jail time for wearing a mask while he's shooting up bad guys (who are not wearing masks)…I'll probable see a police body camera with police blasting the crazy bastard!....mask and packing two six guns...oh yeah...he's a goner!...Happy Thanksgiving!
