While I was a designer at Vetter Fairing we tested all new mounting hardware designs on a quarter mile long section of railroad siding behind the plant. We had four paid test riders that would take turns riding the bikes down the center of the track over the ties; riding the rails was so brutal that they'd change off after four "laps". When we were down a test rider, the designers and engineers would often stand in for them. We eventually got a big computer controlled shaker table to test hardware on; the shaker table was programmed with data taken from accelerometers mounted on the bikes while they were on the test "track".

We broke three or four Gold Wing frames, blew out lots of shock absorbers, and destroyed an uncounted number of those new 'mag' wheels (below).

I am 99.9% sure this video was taken on parts of the Washington Backroads Discovery Route, if so, I recognize a lot of the roads, trails in this video, I have had the Ural on most of them and its a lot HARDER, STEEPER then it looks. The end of the video is the summit of Chumstick Mountain. Beautiful views from up there.

As the video is literally titled "Goldwings on the WABDR...", I am 100% sure it was filmed on parts of the Washington Backroads Discovery Route.

I tried to Jump a Honda 90 at age (17?). I wound up in a brush pile and a brother and a friend had to untangle (it took a bit, they had to stop laughing) , in a fit of intelligence I realized that was not my thing. Kenny Rogers (?) I never was or would be.

I remember the first plain Goldwings, I lusted for one, not sure why. They were good looking bikes with good performance before the couch stuff got put on them.
