Yesterday the kiddo and I took the long way home from Mom's house. He was having a snack in the sidecar...

So I pulled of the county highway to the farm roads to slow down some and kill the wind blast. Ended up in a farmers front yard, then a detour, then going the wrong direction but he was happy for the adventure.

I Rode !

Post by VWNate1 » Fri Sep 06, 2019 9:48 am

..In the blistering heat ~ it reached 109* F, my tiny little Honda zooming along, I reached a whopping 45 MPH even .

Sadly the speedo needle pegged and stayed there on the ride home so I'll drop the speedo head off for rebuilding to day .

Another one of my weekly grocery runs complete. I went to my favorite Mennonite-owned grocery store. They have a deli and packaged cold food section that is nonpareil, as it concerns PA Dutch specialties. This is an out-of-the-way place, which means there aren't any loud or rude out-of-state tourists to contend with. If you ever read about me in the police blotter, it'll likely be due to me [justifiably] knocking one of them on their a$$.

Anyway, today's UDF was brought to me by a local constable, who pulled up and nearly leaped out of his patrol vehicle to gawk at the Gear Up. He took delight in (a) showing me photos of his Harley sidecar, and (b) making a playful comment about my nearly-bald pusher. The latter surprised me, since it requires the observer to really bend down in order to see the exposed tread..and he did exactly that. Perhaps he wanted to compare it with his own experience.

I’m sure not as surprised as I, as I’ve seen the tires you normally remove from your rig, and I’ve probably put worse on
You must be settling in and gaining a greater comfort level with your three wheeled tire eater.
A tire that will live a long life and possibly only expire from old age on a two wheel motorcycle, can be showing cords in a month in the drive position on a sidecar rig. You either get to be an expert tire changer or a slave to the tire shop. and most people who put Kilometers on their rig seem to gain a different perspective on when a pusher needs to be changed.

We have rude, mindless people here at the shore as well and the bulk of them just went home.

Happy trails,

You know, Jay, I still have that first Duro 308 take-off. It seems barely worn when compared to Duro (#2) that's presently providing service in the pusher position. I am indeed settling in, and coming around to your way of thinking.

I have been a slave to the local dealer, vis-à-vis his tire change prices. No more. I purchased a tire changing stand and a Baja No-Pinch tool, and I almost enjoy doing the changes myself. Almost. I do have a Heidenau K28 on Ready Reserve, for when the current pusher reaches true End-of-Life.

Rode to my Doctors office for a routine follow up with my Type 2. He was impressed that I managed to drop another 15 lbs since my last visit. Then I rode home to wait for my ride to the airport.

YES!

A birthday and grow some balls ride ... 150km may not sound like much, but it's more than I've ridden in the last two years since the accident. Maybe half the ride was 55mph or better - apparently, any problems I had until now were more me than the bike, as I felt mostly comfortable, with only a couple scary moments - cresting a hill while gunning it and having to deal with the downside was an interesting feeling it was.
